Type 2
Hi all, just got diagnosed on Monday, Type 2 and have been given medication. I was surprised doctor did not go on about diet or changing my diet.

Welcome to the group.....

There are a lot of things the Dr.'s are not saying, but we live with D daily so many of us have developed our own strategies. There are 2 things I'd suggest though
1/ Cut or reduce significant carb sources such as Bread, Pasta, Rice, Cereals & starchy vegetables, replacing them with green leafy vegetables instead
2/ Start testing, unlikely you were given a test meter but an affordable self-funded one is the SD Codefree from Amazon, start with ordering a few hundred test strips; we can advise more on testing later.

Welcome!
Did you have a full diabetic review? I was diagnosed in Jan and had to wait 2 weeks for mine but they didnt start me on meds til then. They gave me loads of info leaflets and discussed my diet and exercise.
They also offered me a structered educational programme, mines called Juggle but I think every area has a different name. Ive not started yet butbIbe heard good reviews and luckily I get paid time off work to attend as its 1 afternoon for 4 weeks!

Welcome to the forum, L Parsons. Have you been offered a future appointment, perhaps with a practice nurse, or, less likely, dietician?
You're right that diet is important, in addition to medication. Exercise / physical activity is also very important jn managing diabetes.

Hi, thanks for the replies, I was given Metformin and have to go back in 4 weeks, I did ask about diet and he said that we be covered with the diabetic nurse but made no appointment with her. He said that my diabetes was not down to a bad diet but more of a long term thing. Surely that means a bad diet for a long time ? Asked on a scale of 1-10 where would I be and he said if it was down to a poor diet he could say exactly but due to it being over a long time it's between1-5. All confusing.
Where would be the best forum for asking stupid diet questions like is Diet Coke bad for you etc etc

not down to a bad diet but more of a long term thing.
There is a strong genetic component, many of us have D in the family. Personally I had led a fairly good life & ate well, a little overweight but certainly not obese.

Hi and welcome.
We have a section here on food etc so ask away on here. And no question is stupid it's all about learning and you can bet as long as this forums been running your question has been asked by others x

I have heard lots of different names for the courses but Juggle is a new one to me.
