Blood sugar at 7.4 on waking this morning ( started off at17 end of August )...feeling quite pleased about that...or am I getting ahead of myself...testing regularly before and after eating...not sure how often I should be doing that...don't want to be obsessive...still early days for me yet...but feeling more positive...

That looks encouraging, you're obviously getting your head round it. I don't think any testing is obsessive if it's telling you stuff you need to know, and you are able to look at the trends that the results are showing you, and act on them.

It does look encouraging. Sorry I can't remember what meds you're on if any.
Initially I suggest you test before each meal and two hours afterwards.
I agree with robin about testing.

The more you test tge more you know and the more you know the more you can do about it. As for your results? 7.4mmols on waking is excellent. Really well done to you. It can be hard work sometimes and you are obviously grafting 🙂

Thanks Robin...trying hard to get my head round it...and noticing the difference after certain foods...and what exercise I do ( mainly a bit of gardening )...just so frustrating that not given this kind of information from my doctor...who said take these pills ( initially didn't think I had to do anything else...the pills were a cure all ) buy this book...carbs & calories...and referred me for a DESMOND course (that is not until November )...and that was it...got most of my information from reading various material and this forum...disappointing to say the least...will be speaking to him about that when I next see him...and will keep testing...

Hi...Ljc on Metformin 500mgs twice daily...taking other meds for blood pressure and DVT...testing regularly before meals and two hours after...and will continue that until I find the right 'diet' for me...have my own meter...doctor said I didn't need to test my own blood...just have regular blood tests at the surgery...those seem to be every three months...not due another until October...not the way forward is it...thank goodness I decided to do some research and found this forum..bought my own meter...although a real newbie thanks to the advice I've received here and in some publications I recognise the importance of testing...

Hi Diabeticliberty...read some of your posts...outrageous...irreverent...funny...made me larf so much...was reasonably pleased with the result this morning...not really sure if it's me 'grafting'...or the pills (Metformin) or me and the pills...as I said in replying to previous posts not sure getting the right support from GP...who prescribed pills and a book...then off I went clueless, confused and scared...slightly more knowledgeable now... relatively new to all this so a lot more to learn... however intend to keep grafting...Thank you...

Re testing, rather obsessive than compacent I say. I'm quite keen on the idea of keeping my extremities and being able to see them.
Thank you khskel...I've come to that conclusion...why on earth aren't Type 2's advised to test...provided with meters/strips etc...could it be money...amazed at how I was practically left to deal with this on my own...if hadn't found this forum...and done some research who know what may have happened...

Good work Bubbsie! You must be really pleased that your efforts are bearing fruit. 🙂

Thanks Marsbartoastie, not too bad a start I suppose...would like them to be lower...8.8 this evening...hope I can do better...must try harder...

Nice work, Bubbsie.🙂
Thanks Bloden...first thing I do now...get that meter out...check results...tell everyone...how sad is that...driving my friends & family mad...turning into a Diabetes bore...hoping once I get some balance I'll calm down...

Please bear in mind that it is a marathon and not a sprint 🙂. The thing is though the longer you have the condition the more familiar it becomes and you can usually work stuff out pretty quickly. Take a little care though as the condition can sometimes kick you right up the rear end just to let you know that you must treat it with respect it deserves. The condition can do things just out of sheer had faced spite 😡

Yes I do worry about that...had a friend for supper last night...diagnosed four years ago...type 2...now on insulin and in a real mess...TBH that scares the life out of me...so determined not to let that happen...sage advice...and much appreciated....thank you...

Hey hang on a minute, you sound like you are doing fine. Diabetes needs respect but it is certainly nothing to fear. If you end up having to inject insulin it doesn't necessarily mean that you are in a 'real mess' either. Insulin can provide an excellent and highly flexible means of controlling your blood sugars. Do not worry about insulin either. You seem to be doing fantastically as you are 🙂

Thanks...still have a lot to learn...slowly getting to grips with Meds and diet...testing... learning...think.the real issue is in my head...still find it difficult accepting I have diabetes and it isn't going away...hopefully will come to terms with that soon...in comparison to others here only had it for 'five minutes' ...so have to put things in perspective...and pull back a little...

Hi Bubbsie. I was in the exact same situation as you are about 3 months ago. My diabetics professional gave me metformin and told me to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and try to exercise each day and that was it. Thank goodness I found this forum. I have been given some excellent advice from some very considerate people. Until I came on this forum I didn't even know about self testing, now I have found out a lot about my tolerances to different foods and my tests have been in single figures for the last month. Anyway welcome to the forum Bubbsie and the best of luck.

As others have said, it sounds like you are doing fine, Bubbsie 🙂. Keep at it, do your testing, and you will find it very illuminating! If you like cooking and finding new recipes (I don't particularly) you'll find oodles online or in the food threads on these forums, and you don't need to be restricted in what you eat, just more imaginative!

As for type 2s testing....well, my GP and nurse are very supportive of my efforts, and I've been off Metformin since January, but even so my GP said last time I saw her, 'you don't need to test'....er, what? how did I manage to improve and stop medication then?? 🙄o_O
