Hi All,

Was diagnosed type 2 today so have joined this to learn how to live with it and find some yummy recipes 🙂 Living next to the Haribo factory is going to be very hard now :( lmao

Welcome to the group....

Welcome from a fellow T2 who's 18 months in and have spent time around a Haribo factory.

Welcome to the forum, IMissHaribo?regie
Does that mean you live in Pontefract? Colleagues have told me about the factory seconds shop, and I will call in next time I'm in the area, to stock up on hypo treatments - not something for you, of course. Although a few sweets in moderation is OK, as part of your regime of minding carbohydrate in your diet, exercise and aiming for / maintaining normal body weight.

Hi IMissHaribo, welcome to the forum 🙂 How did your diagnosis come about, had you had symptoms? Have you been given any medication?

Not great news, but good that you have come looking for help straight away - if there is anything that is worrying you (apart from the factory next door! 😱), please let us know and hopefully we can ease your concerns 🙂

Have a browse of our Useful Links thread - there are links to lots of good resources there that will help you to understand what it all entails and how to go about getting your blood sugar under control. In particular, I would recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter and getting yourself a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker 🙂

Oh, advice. Ask about the DESMOND course, X-Pert and any other local courses. You may only be able to do DESMOND. Also ask to see the diabetic dietican, carbohydrate awareness day and supermarket tour. You could be waiting a long time for these though.

Thanks guys,Yes Copepod i am in Pontefract and yes they have a shop just outside of town lol

Hi Northerner, It runs in my family, But the last 2-3 years i have noticed a change in myself and am now at the point where i am constantly tired and have no motivation to do anything, add that on top of constant drinking and toilet trips and thought i best get checked out, Had blood test and had results today and confirmed Type 2 and my HbA1c level was at 105.

The doctor has told me about the DESMOND course Ralph so will be looking into that 🙂

Ooh, very similar to me - my HbA1c was 106 😱 🙂 Well done for recognising the possibility and getting it checked out 🙂 One of the big benefits of the courses is not just what you learn (if it is well-presented, by knowledgeable people!) but meeting others in a similar situation to yourself and who you can share concerns and experiences with 🙂

I was looking at the Diabetes day in York but unfortunately it's on a Wednesday so i'll be working :(

Unfortunately, your choice of support group is in Wakefield or Leeds. However, these can be quite good. I know there are several diabetics in your area, some of us on this forum included.

MissHaribo, I'm in Castleford.
