Hello, just joined here my hubby is very close to being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Hoping to gain some valuable info about diet, he has 3 months before next blood test and hoping to be able to control with diet and avoid medication. Any help would be appreciated its all new (and a bit scary) at the moment. Thanks Jo
Hi Jo, welcome to the forum
🙂 I'd say that the best approach is to consider him already diagnosed and take the action that a newly-diagnosed person would take in order to take control of their blood sugar levels and manage them well
🙂 Hopefully, this will mean that, in three months time, he will have improved his situation so that he won't actually get diagnosed - if you see what I mean!

My advice would be to look into the GL Diet (Glycaemic Load) - [COLOR="

The GL Diet for Dummies[/COLOR] is a great introduction. This describes a method of choosing and combining foods so they will have a slow and steady impact on digestion and blood sugar levels. It's worth starting a food diary and recording (in grams) how much carbohydrate he is eating each day - this will give you a good idea of how much overall carbs are being consumed, and things that might be reduced or substituted in order to improve things. 🙂 Finally, regular exercise will really help to improve insulin sensitivity, which is a huge help in improving blood sugar levels - and general fitness and well-being of course!
A diet and exercise regime that is healthy for a person with diabetes is one that is healthy for everyone, so no reason why you can't join in!

Good luck!
