Ok, slightly off topic here, but hoping someone will have the answers. I am quite happy to go along with the 'higher fats lower carbs' thing as lowering cholesterol and helping with diabetes in general. BUT all I read says it has to be saturated fats that you increase to help. And I have a problem with them-I just dont digest them well. So I avoid them in large quantities. So the question is, do unsaturated fats have a similar effect (I tolerate them better)? Or a different effect?

To be honest my fat intake is mixed. My total cholesterol is always an inconveniently large number, but all my breakdowns are excellent. I believe others have seen a difference by reducing dairy and upping the olive oil.

When we are overseas the dairy can be incredibly poor, so I do eat loads of canned fish, in oil, just to keep my weight up (160cm x 47kg, so I'm pretty slight). I usually have my best HbA1c results immediately following a trip, but bearing in mind my range appears to be 31 - 33, I can live comfortably with either of those scores.
