I have yet another stye and general eye infection. Looks like I've done a round with Rocky!

Anyone else prone to these as a result of diabetes? I know in my case it could be due to other things but I've read that they are more common in people with diabetes. I've had general dry eye and soreness for weeks now and the antibiotic drops/cream haven't 'cured' it. Looks like another trip to the doctor's. I have my own seat in the waiting room these days! :(

I haven't had one for years, long before the days of D, but they always seemed to show up when I was run down. I hope you get it sorted soon, as I recall, they were ruddy painful.

Yes quite possibly run down Alison but unfortunately they're recurring. Probably to be expected with a knackered immune system!

Very sorry to hear this Amigo :( It's a long time since I had one of those, possibly 40 years or more 😱 My eyes do suffer from dryness more since I was diagnosed, but no infections so far. Might be an old wives' tale, but I remember being told that echinacea can be good for you if run down.

Hope things clear up soon {{{HUGS}}}

Thanks for your kind support northerner 🙂

Styes are buggers to get rid of. Hope you get relief soon.

I had them when I was younger. When pollen seemed to be in the air. (not now 😱). Hope they get sorted 🙂

Hope GP / practice nurse can help. Long before diabetes, I had a stye and was advised by a friend who was a nurse, to pull out the affected eyelash, and that solved the problem within 24 hours.

Hi Amigo, have you been using an ointment called lacri lube? I ask because a load of batches were recalled due to contamination.
Would cooled boiled water with a bit of salt in help at all?

Thanks for suggestions folks. No I haven't been using lacri lube Sue. The GP gave me antibiotic drops and cream before Christmas but it's turning into a chronic problem it seems :(

If you have dry eye then you need to treat that and hopefully that will ease off the sty problem as wont feel so sore.

Appreciate all the suggestions...I've been using expensive dry eye drops for many years Sue. If it's no better by Tues, I'll consult the doc again. He may prescribe oral antibiotics because my immune system can't be relied on to 'do the business' with infections now. Thanks everyone (helps to have a moan sometimes).

I agree with the 'run down' comments - I had hundreds when I was little, but exceedingly rare in adult life before or after D.

Your mother used to rub the offending lump with her wedding ring - she used to run the cold tap over her hand before doing it - Oooh it was soothing! It was an old wives tale that gold was good for them but as I say, it felt lovely - and I did it to myself with my own, later!

NB Do not use engraved or gem encrusted wedding rings for this - LOL

Furthermore - the cream you bought to treat them, was called 'Golden Eye Ointment' !

You can still get the ointment 🙂

I am wondering if the expensive eye drops are working anymore and perhaps try an ointment instead. Chemist recommended one called simple eye ointment grand cost of a couple of quid, I just put it in at night and don't need any drops during the day now.

Funnily enough Jenny, I resorted to the old wives tale this morning and rubbed my 'sanitised' gold wedding ring over it. I'm sure it doesn't work but also sure that's why 'golden eye ointment' capitalised on the remedy.

It's unfortunately on the bottom of my eye on the tear duct which Dr. Google tells me is the worst place to be!😱

Hoping the wedding ring treatment actually works and I don't need the sunglasses tomorrow! 🙄

Well I think, it does help - you soothe the swelling and actually encourage it to disperse by doing that simple thing, is how I see it. And Lor' knows what was in it - the GE ointment did seem to help! If nothing else - as a child - you were possibly less likely to rub your eye with your mucky paw (from climbing trees, making mud pies, rehoming worms and hairy caterpillars, riding your 4th hand bike with the rusty handlebars, etc) if you thought you might get 'that goo' on them !

Have your tried applying some heat from hot as you can stand flannels?

I've had some hot Tetley teabags on my eyes Sue but the tissues under my eye are swollen so that looks like it needs a cold ice treatment. Hopefully might be a lot better tomorrow.

More old wives, my mother used to steam mine by wrapping strips of cloth round a wooden spoon, dipping it in boiling water, and then holding it as close as I could bear. She reckoned that if you didn't manage to get it to burst and the central core to come out, it would just come up again a week later, and she was usually right.(my mother was always right!)
