Hi All,

I am booked in this afternoon to get my Flu jab being diabetic is there any other jab I shoulod request ? Pnewmonia etc

People with diabetes should have the pneumonia jab, yes, but this is a once-only vaccination, not annual like the flu ones.

when I asked I was told it is an individual thing. I know the flu virus and the cold virus are different things along with chest infections, but I seem to get more chest infections when I have the flu jab than when I don't.

You usually need a jab for pneumonia every 10 years. Having had pneumonia when I was 16 I would highly recommend having the jab if you can get it.

really? i've just looked & diabetes isnt covered by those who need it

I've never had a jab for pneumonia, to my knowledge, unless they sneaked one in when I was in hospital! GP has never mentioned it ans she is usually pretty good on these things.

Snap never heard of it before.

As my review is due tomorrow will add he question to my list.

I have only had the jab twice in nearly 9 years. The first and last year and she just hand me the pneumonia one too. My husband caught a very rare type of it 3 years ago and I don't mean to be dramatic but we nearly lost him. He would have been 21 and healthy so anyone can get it. If you can get the jab it's worth it. Sore arm for days though it's tough stuff l, felt like if been punched for about 4 days x

had my jab yesterday and asked the Nurse if I needed any other injection because of Diabetes and she said no !!

Trouble in today I feel like I have a bad cold and can't stop sneezing not sure if this is connected to the flu ja I had ????

There is massive evidence that the flu jab doesn't cause colds - but the time of year when the jabs are administered is when the sniffles season really gets going. You may have picked it up from someone in the waiting room! Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear you've got a cold, but the timing is only a coincidence, as the viruses in the flu jab are dead. For anyone having the nasal spray version of the flu vacc, this contains live weakened viruses so in theory you could get mild symptoms from this, but not from the injected vaccine.

Had my flu jab on Tuesday, had a big round red sore spot the size of a fifty pence since. :(
I also had a Pneumonia jab about three years ago thru the DN said I should have one beacause of being a diabetic.

As you say it is just one jab no more and worth it if it helps (so side effects)
🙂
