Hello,

had a night time hypo of 2.4 at 4:30 this morning. Figured out it was down to carb counting last nights supper and reading the 'uncooked' carb value instead of the cooked carb value on Sharwoods dried noodles. Seriously, who eats these uncooked?!? And how exactly do they lose half their carbs when cooking?

Carbs Per 100g:
Uncooked - 70g
Cooked - 40g

And now to top it all I forgot to check my slow needle this morning and it's empty. Think I'll write today off and start afresh tomorrow. Lesson learned, even if you've been diabetic for a long time you can't ever get complacent with the basics.

Hi nivz,

The difference between dried and cooked is the weight after the water has been absorbed....so it doesn't loose half the carbs, but you eat half the amount 🙂 I agree though - who eats uncooked noodles?!

And definitely agree about the complacency...there's always room to slip up. We're on a never ending learning curve!

Hope tomorrow is better for you!

Sorry to hear you've had a rough time NiVZ.

FWIW it always frustrates me enormously when they *don't* list uncooked carbs. We weigh everything as ingredients and then work out the total carbs in the dish (then divide by portion size). By the time my noodles hit the plate there are so many other things mixed in (veg meat etc) that the 'cooked' weight becomes pretty useless.

Ah well... tomorrow is a new day!

Katie hit the nail on the head..................

If you ate the whole pack it shouldn't make a difference though............

Hope you have recovered........🙂

Hello,

Thanks for your replies. Understand now why they put uncooked weight, never thought about the water and veg adding to the cooked weight.
