Went for a winter woodland walk today with Susie and OH. BG crashed so fast that cgm said 7.8 when I had some of the worse hypo symptoms for a long time. There was nowhere to sit down in the muddy wood and OH had visions of calling aN ambulance and running to a house a mile away to get help. Not sure what he planned to do with Susie. Fortunately the lucozade worked before my legs buckled, but it was close😱 but I can still say, luckily, that I haven't collapsed from a hypo for nearly 30 years. Ps think the speed of the hypo was a correction dose from 3 hours previously (BG was 9.9 at start of walk) plus the diabetes fairy getting excited about Christmas:D

Glad everything was ok and you had someone with you. Take care, Amanda x 🙂

Phew! Glad to hear you recovered quickly Amanda 🙂 Of course, Susie would have stayed with you to protect you from the woodland beasts if OH had to go and seek help! :D

It's amazing how fast insulin can work when you start strolling. Well done for having the lucozade with you.

I've been caught before (years ago) in similar situation alone with the dog in the middle of a wood and only a banana and a penguin to eat. I sat for about half an hour and gingerly made my way back to the car where I'd left more food.

We live and learn :D

I know what you mean......because my BG was 9.9 when I got out of the car I nearly didn't take my Lucozade with me. Without it I definitely wouldn't have made it back to the car

Just shows the importance of ALWAYS having sugary / carbohydrate food / drink wtih you at all times.

Occasionally eg on mountain marathons, I've had to sit down on a hillside and eat, although far more usually, eat on the go, so as not to lose time. Ideally I find a rock or dry patch, but sometimes what looks like grass turns out to be a bog, which makes me glad that I'm wearing dark coloured nylon shorts / tracksters and underwear, so that mud doesn't show up to bad and all can dry out during the day, unless it's raining so much that it doesn't really matter!

However, a well placed plastic bag can prevent a wet / muddy bum!

I'm sure you can imagine the image that popped into my mind when I read that! 😱 :D
