Hi

I have just started taking 2000 IU of Vitamin D a day as my vitamin D level was 29 and should be 100.

My consultant believes this could be the cause of my extreme tiredness - (by extreme I mean even half hour after waking I could sleep a good few hours again - and every time I sit down I literally find my eyes shutting).

I have spoken to a few health shops before buying it (you can't get it on prescription) and they have all mentioned helps with tiredness without me prompting - so here is hoping things improve.

The strange thing is even though I complain I am tired I still manage to do my exercise although we have noticed a lack of energy in that department too lately.🙂

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of taking vitamin D and if it helped with energy levels at all.🙂

I will let you know if I find any improvement after taking it for some time.

I am no doctor, but that seems very likely that it could be the reason for you lack of energy........

I hope it gives good results, if not, get to the sunbeds............😉

I take Vitamin D3 twice daily (I have Osteopenia from Coeliac Disease) here's a site that you may find helpful, check out fibromyalagia and Chronic Fatigue (down along right hand side, click link)

And Vitamin 'D' deficiency at bottom of page.

I take 5000iu per day of D3 in capsule form. A friend of mine in another forum gets hers on prescription. Only this morning I read a message from her which says that some Drs accept a level of 50 after testing, but apparently the correct level is 149. I haven't a clue since I can't get my GP to do the test and I have no idea when or if I will see the Endo again. I live in a terrible area for health care though, you look as though you are luckier.

I hope it works for you, fatigue is horrible :( but I have never taken Vitamin D myself. I hope you start to feel much more alert and active very soon. Take care Sheena

Crikey 5000IU seems an awful high dose. The health shop are only allowed to recommend 1000IU apparently and were quite concerned that the consultant had recommended 2000IU but agreed if he had suggested it, it would be okay. Are you okay taking 5000IU if you haven't had your vitamin D level tested as you can actually overdose on vitamin D?

I was told I had to get my levels to 100 - but I suppose there are different scales?

I haven't had a sunbed for quite some time actually - that might be on the cards for my holiday with myself next week!🙂 thanks for the reminder!🙂

David - do you take 2 x 1000 IU daily? If so do you think it is better to take them twice daily as opposed to together. I have been told to take 2000IU in one go once a day?

Thanks for the link.🙂

AAARgh!!!!

Thanks for the post Sheena🙂

Hi Lucy,
Vit D is claimed to improve a lot of health problems so give it a go and as you are deficient in it.
Can't remember where I read it but it's meant to decrease insulin needs as well. (suspect pinch of salt needed here)

I tend to suffer from SAD, so as an experiment tried vit D (1000) Last summer to build up levels for the winter. Improvement was marked. So this summer tried 2000 once a day and have to say things are a even better this year. I'm not as tired as I normally am either. It does take a while to build up in your system though so don't expect instant results. 🙂

Thanks for that Sue - fingers crossed then as renewed energy would be good. How long roughly would you say it takes to build up before i notice anything? Days/Weeks/Months?🙂

Not to sure Lucy, pos 4-6 weeks. But please do note I started on a lower dose than you. So you should in theory notice an improvement before that 🙂
