I hope this is not classified as a sin! Sometimes I browse the other diabetes support website:-

www.diabetes-support.org.uk

However recently it seems to be offline. Does anybody know why? I know a number of people here post on it as well so thought I would ask.

I'd never heard of it until now. But the link is working.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache ?

Rob

We have a few members who post on both forums. They are very nice people 🙂 I haven't had any problems accessing the site recently.

Traitor, its offline coz its rubbish.................boooooooooo...............😡.

Only kiddin...........:D............. no idea I'm afraid..........

For some reason I get a you are forbidden to access this server message when I try the link.

Sorry - hope I am not banished to the furthest corners of the web! Clearing the cache did not work Wonder if I have got a spoof virus again?

Interesting that margie can't access it as well. I wonder if they have been having problems again? I know a while back they were quite badly hacked. Perhaps they are in the process of fixing things as happened to us a couple of weeks ago?

I came across this announcement on their site, I wonder if it might be in play for those who have said they can't access the site:

Most members probably don't realise the amount of spam messages we have posted on the forum and blog site - largely because the moderators do a great job in pulling them very promptly.

Where we get persistent spam from overseas we usually block the source internet provider. On a few occasions a genuine member can get blocked because they use the same provider. On even fewer occasions UK members may get caught if their service provider shares internet routeing with other (spam-source) European IPs.

(We don't usually block UK IP addresses as we will, in that case, report spammers to the IP and have some confidence in them being dealt with.)

The block will simply show as a repeated error message when you try to access the forum and/or info site.

If any genuine member runs into this situation please email admin @ diabetes - support.org.uk (without the spaces) and ensure the message includes your username. We should then be able to restore your access.

Sorry it has to be like this, but we'd be awash with herbal remedies, viagra, porn, potential hackers and all sorts of weird and wonderful advertisements without it.

I suspect it is this. I had trouble with another site and when I looked into its meaning it said the IP had been blocked. I contacted someone I knew about it and in this case it was a more complicated situation in that someone had taken over the URL and that was causing issues for the previous owners. So I didn't follow it up just updated what I needed for the replacement site.

However, I do wonder how they expect users who can't access the site and continually get errors to read the notice and e-mail them.

Hi all

I am one of the Admins at diabetes-support.org.uk and I was alerted by someone who posts on this site that there may be a problem. I apologise sincerely for the inconvenience that has been caused to some members. We will certainly do whatever we can to assist anyone who has accidentally been blocked. As a rule we do not block UK IP addresses but we have just discovered that some UK IP addresses route through Holland as do some from Khazakstan and other places in the former USSR from whence the spammers came.

Please email admin @diabetes-support.org.uk (leaving out the gap), with your IP address if possible - you can find out your IP address hereWhatismyipaddress.com. Once again we apologise, we are currently in process of trying to sort a way of preventing links from members who have posted less than a small number of times.

As a footnote, I think it's absolutely disgusting that spammers and hackers attack sites such as this one and ours where people are genuinely trying to help people with chronic disease.

PS. I also look in here quite a lot, even if I don't post much

Thanks for this information Patti. No idea where I am routing through. Using mobile broadband (Three) as around and about. The IP always starts 188.28/9. with the rest being variable. Not sure if that helps. Was OK when I popped into a library 30 minutes ago.

Completely agree Patti. We keep hoping that if we put enough obstacles in their way they will give up, but it doesn't seem to slow them down much :( Quite amusing when they post questions about the abolition of slavery in Events, or breast pumps in the pumping section! Hope you find a way around your problem with the links 🙂

Margie if you'd like to email your IP address to admin then I will look into it and get you back on.

Stephen, I'm not sure what we can do in the event of you having a dynamic IP address but I'll look at all those starting 188.28/9 and unban them

Northerner, It's getting ridiculous isn't it? I moderated 53 spam comments off our blogs in one day last week, but that's not so bad because they don't show until you allow them to. In the forum they can just post anything they like. Fortunately our mods are pretty good at whipping them into a Quarantine section where they can't be seen. I agree, if it wasn't so dire it'd be amusing at times.
