It'll mean more spam and junk mail for somebody even if they are not the participants. The lady in question is Head of Direct Mail - "Direct Mail" being a polite euphemism for spam and junk mail.
And as you said ... "The responses will also help JDRF's marketing strategies" i.e. how to target spam and junk mail better 🙂
 
Direct mail can also be by agreement. Many websites and companies ask customers/participants whether they wish to receive future mailings.

If you tick Yes, then you can receive direct mail as agreed.

No would mean your name isn't added to the mailing list. Except for disreputable organisations which may flout the rules.🙂

Having done the survey I don't see it as a spam/junk generator. An organisation like JDRF has to get the message out somehow and it is better if they can direct their resources towards people most likely to help or be interested in learning more. Spam/junk is indiscriminate.

That's not Direct mail, that's Database Marketing, you build a Database of customers who are interested in your product, often from responses to Direct Mail.

Hi mcdonagh47, I don't find your posts particularly helpful. If you have a look at JDRF and its website, you will see all the information sent out is 'opt in' - ie not cold mailing. Noone is forcing you to fill in the survey, so please take your negative attitude elsewhere.

You'll also notice I said she is head of Direct Marketing. Without marketing and thus raising awareness of the charity, the charity cannot raise money to put towards the cure. If you do not like what you receive from JDRF, why not get in touch and let them know?

That's exactly what it is ... its an online Focus Group, the responses to the questions like "I am concerned about passing on the condition to my children" will inform subsequent mailshots ( spam or junk whatever you want to call it) they will hone the material to fit which of those questions elicited the biggest responses or tailor mailshots to address individual concerns that got most ticks in that survey.
Otherwise there is no point in an exercise like this, as the OP said its going to shape JDRF's marketing strategies.
 
Shouldn't charities campaign then? :confused: And shouldn't they campaign in order to secure the best response and investigate how that should be done?

To raise money to fund medical research into type 1 diabetes, to better inform newly diagnosed families, to better support those already diagnosed.

So that they can raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes. As a type 1 sufferer, I think this is a good thing and hope the strategy works.

Do you think the public know enough about type 1 diabetes ?

They are the objects of the Charity not the marketing strategies used to sell itself.🙂 Its the "how" not the "why" that's relevant here.
