Weekends are the bane of my life of my life at the moment (sorry maybe a little bit of a rant coming here lol). Basically, I spent hours upon hours in the gym during the week, eat the right foods and am basically a Saint. Then Saturday comes along and things go a little haywire ? especially during the footy season.

It starts with me meeting up with my mates before the game and thinking ? well I have been so good during the week, one or two drinks isn?t too bad. Then following another abject performance from my team, a few more to ease the pain of defeat by which time Im starving and then a curry seems a good idea!

Then I wake up on Sunday and wonder what on earth I had done and why things had gone off track so much!

Am I beating myself up about nothing here and being too hard on myself?

We all need to relax and let our hair down sometimes, and Saturday seems a good day to do this. It is easy to get carried away and loose track of things if we are having a good time (and the team is winning) with our mates or if we are consoling ourselves because the team lost. If we were good all of the time I think we would all go crazy

I'm not a huge footie fan, so don't do it at the weekends. Maybe someone else will be able to make suggestions.

I think you would like me to be honest with you Bob as we both know we are in the same boat.

First of all if it was a one off I would say you thoroughly deserve it as you have done so well so far - tremendously well in fact.

If you are doing it and still losing your desired weight and your bs are okay then again I would say its okay.

If however, you are like me and want to see a loss on the scales each week (which I know you do) then if this is not happening then you do need to take a little more care I am afraid! (Sorry).

I say this because I too have had a birthday weekend this week and I am not happy with the result! I can't say I totally enjoyed the food either!! So there I was having a mega gym session at 6.30am to get it off quickly as still want to see a loss on thursday.

So I suppose it depends on the scenario. However I do know from experience you can get away with the weekends for so long - but they do start to creep up and one day becomes two etc!

Its probably not what you want to hear - sorry.

I have noticed thursday night treats are getting more and more so have to plan my thursday night treat too now in my calories.

I don't know if this is helpful but what about planning your weekend but include a few treats that you know you can have and still lose weight? That way you can have a little naughtiness but feel okay about it!

Also - how about changing your footie team to one that wins regularly:D

Hope I haven't said too much🙂

pm me again if you wish.🙂

You may be being a little hard, when the weekend comes for me, my control goes out the window, or at least my effort to test blood etc, I still inject my insulin, but its mostly guess work when eating etc........

If you maintain control that is good enough for you even with the relaxed weekends that cool, if you feel you cant then you might need to rethink the weekends.....

But you should almost definitely make time to live life without the normal diabetic restrictions......:D

No reason you shouldn't be able to have a beer and curry with your mates Bob. How about having a (diet) soft drink every other drink, or halves instead of pints? And go for the healthiest option with the curry - basmati rice, ditch the naan bread etc. 🙂

Thanks for all your helpful comments. To be honest I tend to have the odd vodka and diet coke and a couple of pints so it could be worse I guess. I think I had 5 drinks in total on Saturday so it is better than some of the lads who had that before I had even got there lol.

As for the curry ? lamb tikka vindaloo may not be the best but sooo nice although I need to confess to having the naan bread which probably wasn?t ideal.

One thing i have noticed though is that if you come off the wagon just for a few hours, I am absolutely shattered the next day and struggle to get out of bed. Another reason for staying on track no matter how tempted you are I think!

I think this is the reason I have so much sympathy/respect for T2s. Being able to relax things every once in a while is so important to keep you sane (and prevent you jumping off the wagon completely) but one day in 7, followed by a dodgy recovery day could end up being a significant proportion of the week, and it is SO much harder for T2s not on insulin to accommodate these dietary extravagances :(

Mike - you put it much better than I did.🙂

Bob - I agree about the sleepiness too - may as well write the day off for me now if naughty.:(

Well Saturday is done now - so I have given myself a target of burning off 10,000 kcals in the gym before 3pm next Saturday or else I will not be going 🙂
