Naughty on Wednesday had 2 dairylea and tuesday nibbled through 2 cheese strings.

Any help/suggestions would be appreacited

I hate to say it Steff but you may have to be like me and try and avoid all bread products. Try halving the bread products, so 1 granary roll, 1 oatcake. I made the mistake the other day of eating some left over sausages (5) (guest house breakfast leftovers) and that shot me up, quite lot of carbs in sausages, mine are 75% meat so I guestimated about 12grams per sausage. I no longer eat bread at all and still struggle. Major success today, skipped breakfast and managed to get to 5.3 just before supper, so remains to be seen what my treat doughnut does😱

Thanks Vic makes sense to me,its just so hard on lunch break to think up things that dont include bread, I guess I could take a tupperwear box in containing a pre made salad that I do at home throw a few salad bits in and jazz it up with crumbled cheese or something.Well done on your 5.3 i dont like skipping my brekkie though.

I knew it wasn't the answer you wanted, but it's hard being Diabetic. I have cold roast chicken with a but of bacon, some broad beans and some walnuts for lunch (got fed up with lettuce) and thats nearly every day. Sometimes it's tinned salmon. Bear in mind I take Levemir insulin so am madly trying to counteract the highs I've been getting (sorry I regard 10 as a high). I was 9.4 this morning.

Steff just a suggestion for you, but have you actually weighed any of the bread you eat and worked out the carb value? Looking at what you are eating carb wise it is one heck of a lot on some days.

Try skipping the bread and perhaps using ryvitta or something else like that.
There's loads of carb free stuff to fill up on so you don't go hungry.
Or if you love bread so much is there anyway you can transport an open sarni? Thus cutting the bread down by half.
Have you tried burgen bread, that's very low GI so you might also get better results with it.

Hi Steff,
I suspect you need to go down the being carb aware route. As you know carbs are the biggest problem for people with diabetes. Perhaps if you worked out what you have on your plate then tested each time you ate you can then find out a carb level to suit you. Look into the glycemic load as well for dif foods.
Good luck

Just a thought and a different take on the ham sandwich but you could do something similar like the chinese restaurants do for Yuk Sung. Take a whole lettuce leaf(washed first) add inside some ham/chicken/other sliced meats, add some other salad bits if desired (cucumber, toms etc) and then roll up the lettuce leaf so all ingredients are enclosed and eat like a fajita or wrap.

Bingo, no carbs at all, and the same/similar to a sarnie!!!! Yuk Sung the diabetic and healthy way!!!!

I also eat on sugar free jelly while at work(desk job, very boring), maybe make up a few pots of that as a lunchtime pudding!!!

Thanks Sue you have been most helpful, i do refer to my collins gem book at times but I must work harder on trying to work carbs out.

Let me know how you get on Steff, hope you like! If you find it a bit dry and need dressing or mayo then just be mindful in case the dressing drips out of the lettuce!😱

Thanks Sue ive got light kraft french dressing in the fridge

Don't know if this will help but I buy 3 chickens for ?10 from the co-op/morrisons, freeze 2 and cook the third (my microwave does a 1.4kg chicken in 25 minutes. Strip the chicken when cool and thats my lunches for the next 4/5 days. Walnuts are good for the occasional nibble.

P.S. Results of the doughnut are in: pre meal and doughnut +.5hr 8.4, 1 hr 9.2, +2hr 7.5. Really pleased with that as supper was a chicken and chorizo pasta bake and the doughnut was custard filled and fudge icing topped.

Nope! Disagree there Alan....Krispy Kreme do-nuts are the dogs-nuts!!!!! Sugary glaze, sweet aroma reminding me of my days back on family holiday in USA(....mmm...IHOP...Dennys...KFC mash potato, yep I said mash potato!)

That sounds like a wicked doughnut Vic! 🙂

It was, I just love catering custard, Vanilla slices used to be my favourite, where the custard squidges out when you bite it. There seems to be this strange effect, I presume from the evening Victoza injection, in that something is kicking in with insulin, my morning insulin injection must have been used up by now. I've been trying to find a way round the highs I've been getting first thing.

Well lunch today was chicken and cottage cheese, not enough time to go out and buy the lettuce and stuff today, but i did try an open sandwitch. Was very tasty, best bit of news was BS was 7.6 which is not perfect but better.

Thanks Sue,got a nice shopping list for tomorrow going on here lol.. shall definely be investing in that burgen bread as I know Morrisons do it

Silly question 🙄 How exactly do you eat an open sandwitch?

I'm guessing that the theory is that you lose the top slice of bread - correct. Everytime I've done that I've ended up folding the remaining slice in half. That's ok - but my brain seems to confuse itself into thinking that I've only had half a lunch then 😱

Hope you find something that works, steff. I agree with the other people and I also think Carb Counting would be a big help. Have a good weekend and take care Sheena x
