I'm glad they had her on, because she knows it from a patient's point of view. Thought it was a good piece 🙂

Good to see the shabbyness is being highlighted, cant believe that doc said theres 9 tests a diabetic should be having

My foot check seems to have fallen by the wayside - normally happens in April but haven't heard a dickybird.

It seems there is some discussion over what the nine are, even the report itself doesn't seem to always be consistent

The best definition I have seen in the audit report itself (page 7) is:

2. Care Processes:
What proportion of people registered with diabetes received the nine key processes of diabetes care
(Measure: Weight, Blood Pressure, HbA1c, Urinary Albumin, Serum Creatinine, Serum Cholesterol; Assess: Eyes, Feet, Smoking)?

They do always ask me if I smoke. I've had all the others except the foot check this year. As the lady on the BBC said, care in Southampton is excellent and because I was diagnosed here I was and still am shocked at the level of care people get elsewhere. :(

I think that I have received all of them (I don't smoke either), although I don't get a copy of the results in all cases.

I was the RGN who did my feet, rather then a specialist.

My optician asked me if I had been to the retinopathy screening - I suspect she would of nagged me If I had not. She was saying that some people do avoid that one.

Weight? Check
BP? Check
HbA? Check
Urinary Albumin? What? (They might have done this when they did the c-peptide tests, but no-one said anything.)
Serum Creatinine? Eh?
Serum Cholesterol? Check
Eyes? Check
Feet? Check
Smoking? Nope, but then I gave it up more than 25 years ago.

6/7 out of 9 isn't bad I suppose.

Do you take a urine sample to your review? This is where they check for albumin, and may also be where they check for the creatinine (or that might be a blood test, can't remember) - both are to do with kidney function, so if you've been told your kidneys are fine then it will be based on those checks 🙂

I think the creatinine is done as a blood test. Mine was a bit iffy last time and I've had to cut out bananas. :( I would badger the surgery for a foot check Alan. It is important.

On the Desmond course i was given a form to apply for a podiatrist appt , which I did. I now have an appointment in August so that is reassuring. I would certainly ask the doc/ nurse( I rarely see the nurse and haven't seen the doc since Dx ) if you can have an appt.

It seems to me that we have to look after ourselves on the whole ... Not much fun for people who can't cope with this sort of thing.

If they told you to stop eating banana's it's probably due to your potassium levels being high!

But I have all 9 tests (sadly I am a smoker, but I don't drink alochol) I also get a thyroid with a T4 test with it..

The test I hate the most is foot test as I hate the tuning fork test where they see how if you can feel the vibraton, yes right I my piggin shin😱

i get it all in my 6monthly review with DSN ...but didnt last time as had appointment with GP ...eye test every year in Nov time ...HbA1c November and june ..access to gp or DSN anytime ....I am lucky x🙂
briefly saw item on BBC news ....
