Over excited because it’s my birthday, so I have managed to take 4.5 units of Lantus instead of Novarapid. What, if anything, can I do?
Thanks in advance.

First of all @Riggers - happy birthday! You definitely need to monitor your BG very closely - see Diabetes UK webpage for more info:

Have you eaten yet? Or just realised beforehand?

Realised as I pulled the needle out. Have now eaten my dinner, spaghetti bolognese, which usually makes me be a bit higher.

Spaghetti (for me) doesn't spike me too much so just keep an eye on it I'd say - make sure you're checking it regularly - how much Lantus do you usually take (and when?)

If you normally take your Lantus in the evening, deduct the 4.5 units from your dose @Riggers If you normally take it in the morning, then you’ve had 4.5 units too much today so you’ll need to watch your blood sugar overnight. You might also consider reducing your next morning dose slightly.

Looking on the bright side, it’s much better muddling them up this way round than taking your rapid/bolus insulin instead of your basal.

Thanks Inka. Take my Lantus, 21 units, in the morning.
So if I’m lower than usual in the morning I take a bit less? (I get that none of us can give medical advice, just experience.) But it is such a relief having you all here to help when things go a bit haywire.

The extra 4.5 units you took this evening might be continuing to work overnight and during the day tomorrow (it can last around 24hrs) so that’s why you might consider reducing your morning dose tomorrow.

If you've done an extra 4.5u based on a regular dose of 21u this is a smidge over 20% increase which should be ok as Lantus is very slow release (I'd defo go a bit less in the morning) - I have made the mistake you made the other way around though which was interesting!

I think most of us have done this, or forgotten completely, or forgotten if we have taken any insulin at all.

I do feel this way round is less stress than the other, I know people who have taken their fast in mistake of slow, and taken a lot of fast acting that should have been low acting. That's a scary one.

Hope your levels stay well behaved.

I would want to be higher than usual going to bed tonight just to be in the safer side.

Evening. Just wanted to say that my levels have pretty much followed their normal patterns overnight and today. I did take 3 units less of Lantus this morning.
Thanks again for setting my mind at rest.
Great to hear @Riggers
