Just venting but crikey has it just hit me

Thank you for your reply. Yes, that does largely reflect how I feel. And yes, my Hba1c was 121, BG >28 (highest machine reads) and ketone just 0.2. I've been assured it wouldn't have stayed at 0.2 for much longer :D .

Luckily if it is T2 I don't have much weight to lose (BMI is just hovering around 25) and I train for and run marathons so the exercise isn't an issue. My diet either way could do with work though!
Ha they told me same too. Cannot begin to tell you the fear GP put into me when shipped me off to A&E. I know at 7pm not much surgery can do as they were closed and GP was being cautious however defo gave me a wake up call

Hopefully if T2 like you say then you will be able to turn it around!

So today was interesting. I've noticed that I have been having a massive spike after breakfast with BG hitting 20+ so today I decided to have some overnight oats with Greek yoghurt, blueberries and Manuka honey instead of sugar free muesli.

By 10am I could swear I was having my first hypo - headache, feeling dizzy when stood up, arms and legs like lead, brain felt 'slow' etc.

So did a test. BG was 12 . So just showed me how elevated it's been for a while that I was struggling at that.

Daily average is coming down nicely though and hopefully by the weekend I'll have the numbers where they need to be. Ish at least.

Should be getting a phone call from one of the DSNs tomorrow to check in on me too and hopefully the C-peptide results will be back too.

Went for my officially old health check today too which was the trigger for all of this being discovered too.

It was the practice pharmacist who saw me and he said T1 too based on what he could see. So that means it'll turn out to be T2. At least he was happy to prescribe me a load of test strips and lancets even though the letter hadn't come through from the hospital yet and put them on repeat.

@dannybgoode in case helpful, here’s a post I wrote two months into being diagnosed as a T1, about what I wish I’d known from the beginning: https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/board...just-over-two-months-ago.113629/#post-1373204

This forum is the best: I wouldn’t have got through those shaky first weeks without people here.
Thanks for this, it is really useful.

Yes I'm already experiencing most of what you write and have what encountered a few Facebook experts who are telling me it's impossible that I might be Type 1, that Type 1 can be cured by diet, going vegan, keto, 100% carnivore etc will 100% cure Type 2 etc. All part of the fun 🙂.

I'd forgotten how brilliant this post was from @MollyBolt - It really sums it all up beautifully - does sound like T1 to me @dannybgoode but I hope you get the results soon - and your attitude to it all is amazing - loving the positivity

Somebody once asked me if I was an optimist and I said I hope so...(Credit the very brilliant Bill Bailey)
And I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure - joking aside, whatever the diagnosis, I'm sure you're going to smash it

Honestly I’d just tell people it’s type 1, you’ll get a lot less hassle about cures, and if people tell you that it can be cured you can send them off to Google. It sounds like you’ll be T1, two medical professionals have said expect T1 and only one T2.

I told people i didn’t want to give my entire medical history to that I had T1 for 16 years whilst my diagnosis was T2, but I was on insulin like a T1, because I just hadn’t had the tests / results to decide. Other people aren’t going to understand all the details so just tell them what makes it easiest for you.

Obviously for medical appointments give the honest answer.

Good advice - I may do just that. And the GP is old school and doesn't seem to believe 'old' people can get T1 either so they just said T2. And of course I have a healthy suspicion of Facebook experts also 🙂 .

So a little update. Had another call from the DSN. Dose increased again to 10 units of everything as BG still a little on the high side.

Also, the results of the C-peptide tests back and... Inconclusive. My pancreas is doing something but not at the right levels.

So could still be either type. Just need to await the results of the antibody test I guess...

Did you get the actual results? In case it helps here is how to interpret them :

Stimulated basically means after a meal. But as you can see during the “honeymoon” phase when your pancreas may still be making some insulin you could get results in the > 0.6 range, possibly a reason for “inconclusive”?

Do you know what that 3rd column U... whatever means? Its just i'm expecting a c-peptide so this is very relavent for me

It’s for urine rests. The other columns are for blood.

Cheers! Mine was a urine. I may have to chase with the hospital tomorrow as its been a while

I'm sure the DSN said 1100 which sounds pretty high for inconclusive however I could have misheard.

I'm just a bit frustrated right now. No one's fault of course, I was just hoping to know for sure so I can get on with whichever plan I need to follow.

BG for my pre -tea reading was pretty high too even after an increased dose of insulin which has annoyed me. I know it shouldn't however it had been coming down nicely over the last few days and was the lowest of has been this morning.

Anyway, I'm just grumbling and I should be focusing on moving forward...

Can you access your results online @dannybgoode ? Don’t be annoyed. Insulin is usually increased slowly and carefully, so it will take time to get things right. More than that, if your blood sugar drops too quickly, you’re at risk of eye problems.

It is frustrating waiting for the results (happened to me too) as you're in a state of limbo but it's great that your healthcare team are being so thorough and as @Inka has said you have to be careful increasing insulin doses and take things slowly - don't get too hung up on the numbers at this very early stage

Annoyingly no I don't think so - it's hospital bloods so not fed through to my NHS online records as they weren't GP ordered. I have checked and they're not showing.

Yeah, I know re insulin etc and the DSN did explain the dangers of dropping things too quickly when I was in on Friday.

Just generally getting a bit negative today. It'll pass!

Feeling much more chipper today. It's the weekend, we're about to go to my favourite burger joint and I got my first green reading since all this kicked off a week ago.

Actually, it's hard to believe it's already been a week. Gone past in a blur! Hopefully my BG is getting under control now and within a few days I'll stop feeling odd from the change in levels.

One thing I have noticed. Having been short sighted since the age of 15, right now I can see pretty well without glasses for the first time in over 30 years!

Need to let my eyes settle down and maybe a trip to the opticians is needed...Screenshot_20241213_175510_mySugr.jpg

Not unusual for eyesight to change when blood glucose goes up or down rapidly, let it settle before getting new glasses if needed.
