Feeling hungry constantly

Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I'm really fed up with struggling to lose weight. I was diagnosed with Type 2 over a year ago and made lifestyle changes, joined a run walk group, started eating healthy, lost some weight then put a bit back on due to constantly feeling hungry. I was on metformin and when my hba1c lowered a bit I came off. I'm hearing about this weekly injection ozempic in the news for the use in obesity. As I'm obese with hypertension and a type 2 diabetic, can I ask my GP to prescribe me with ozempic? I've asked for help with weightloss for over a year now and have completed a course about type 2 diabetes, completed a 12 week online app based weight loss programme. Had counselling about my eating habits (not via NHS), joined a run walk group, paid for meal prep companies. It all just comes back to me always feeling hungry and losing interest in weight loss feeling fed up. Last time I asked to be referred to a weight loss service in the NHS my GP said I knew how to lose weight as did it before (this was me losing 56lbs by attending bootcamps and eating around 800 calories, not sustainable), and sent me a link to a local running group. I live alone and really need some proper support and was hoping to try Ozempic.

If your blood glucose control (HbA1c) is good (such that your Metformin was stopped) then I'm not sure if you'd meet criteria to be prescribed ozempic as a diabetes treatment. But none of us can know what your GP's reaction might be if you ask about it.

Thanks, wasn't sure. My last hba1c was 46. It seems crazy that I will have to go through a weight loss referral with my GP which can take months and then eventually be prescribed Ozempic anyway for my obesity.

What sort of meals are you having that is leaving you hungry, if your meals have enough protein and healthy fats that should help you not to feel hungry all the time.
You have obviously successfully reduced your HbA1C so you presumably made dietary changes to achieve that but maybe that needs reviewing to make more progress on weight loss.

It was the hospital diabetes specialists that prescribed ozempic for me, the GP couldn’t prescribe it, though maybe that’s changed. Bear in mind if you take it for weight loss you can only use it for a limited period of time, 2yrs i think. Also it’s not a magic bullet and doesn’t work for everyone, did absolutely nothing for me so stopped it

Care to share what you think "healthy" is?
In what respect? Food or in general? I know I'm certainly not healthy at the moment.

Meal plan wise I'm eating things like berries, oatmeal, natural yoghurt with berries, salmon, broccoli, lentil soup which I make from scratch, eggs etc.

I know what to eat and I am achieving results, just very slowly and when I get that hunger I just want to eat anything and everything

Sounds pretty low fat and maybe too many carbs in the oatmeal?
Fat provides satiety and the carbs can cause blood sugar spikes which will make you hungry..

You don't seem to be including meat and cheese or nuts, full fat yoghurt or high protein yoghurt or Kvarg deserts might be good options.

I eat chicken, lean mince. Not keen on cheese but do have baby bels, also have cashews, skr yoghurt. I've been told I'm following a good diet, just get these feelings of hunger. Also have a lot of weight to lose and would be good to have some support, so was hoping to get a referral to a weight loss management so someone checks on my progress on a regular basis.

Thanks for the suggestions

Who told you that though? A fellow T2 in remission who has lost a lot of weight or a "professional"?

Your hunger is likely because you aren't getting enough fat to provide you with satiety.

I too was morbidly obese when I cut almost all carbs out of my diet.
The effortless weight loss that followed was amazing.

I don't get any regular help. I went to a course over 12 weeks when I first got diagnosed and only have checks once a year. I've got an appointment with my GP next week as want some help. When I went last time I got a link to a running group. I need help with monitoring what I'm eating etc

You do seem to be eating all the right things, we have always been told low fat is good but unless you need to have low fat for medical reasons then avoiding low fat can help to fill you up so you would feel less hungry. Sometimes people mis-interpret thirst for hunger.
Have you considered the low calorie shakes based regime for weight loss, they are complete meals. People report not feeling hungry when using those.
Some people have also found Slimming World or Weight Watchers works as long as you tell them you are Type 2 diabetic and have a program which takes that into account, the local groups seem to have started up again so that would give you some support.

Must admit I'm terrible for not drinking enough water. I tried exante or whatever it's called but couldn't stick to just shakes.

I think all I need is a regular support group that isn't slimming world lol.

Are you trying cutting carbs too .. strong medicine when allied wth IF.

Yes cutting carbs too , I have lost a kg in last week so I must be doing something right lol
I did IF and ultra low carb/keto when diagnosed. In remission in 4 months.
Still there 7 years later.
