Hey guys,
Just had my first hypo, blood went to 3.5 , I am currently finding the right dosage.
I have diagnosed for 5 days.

Much love to you all

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Welcome @Rowlandtype1 I hope you’re feeling ok now. Hypos can be unpleasant. Always make sure you have some longer-acting carbs after your glucose to make sure your blood sugar doesn’t drop back down.

What insulins do you take?

Thank you for your advice, I will have some porridge now, it went down again.

Good move, @Rowlandtype1 I hope the porridge does the trick. If you keep going low and/or are fighting to keep your blood sugar up, speak to your diabetes team as it might be your insulin needs adjusting.

Are you taking fixed doses of the Humalog or do you adjust your mealtime dose yourself according to the carbs you’re about to eat?

If you’re able to work out why you went low, that’s always useful, eg were you more active than usual, ate fewer carbs, added up the carbs incorrectly, etc? Sometimes hypos just happen but often we can work out the reason and that helps us avoid them in future.

Early in diagnosis, avoiding hypos is a priority so it’s better to be a little bit high than risk another hypo.

Do you have a Libre? If so, set your Low alarm a bit higher so you can get good warning of dropping sugars. I set mine in the 5s and that’s worked well to reduce hypos. If you don’t have a Libre and are just fingerpricking, do a few extra tests to keep an eye on things over the next few hours.

Libre on the way, need a new sensor, yes i have set it prior critical levels. I am self medicating at the moment, I have basically got the ratio wrong, I went to high on the insulin ( lesson learned) , and as you have said its better to be a little high than critical low. I'm doing extra test until I go to bed and take my long Insulin tonight.

Again wonderful, thoughtful advice , I thank you.
