Hello Inka ,diagnosed back in 2015 went on low carb diet went to pre diabetes after ,I was very good with diet until the pandemic ,T2 again in March 2022 back on low carb diet and glucophage& statins want to get off these if possible

The pandemic made things hard for many reasons. I’m sure you’ll get things under control again 🙂 Do you test your own blood sugar? If not, that’s a good way to see the effect different foods have on you and can be very useful.

No never done it,figured what worked first time probaly will now,not lost quite as much weight yet as I did first time but it is coming off ,not quite as ruthless with the carbs this time as I was sticking to 15g carbs a day originally ,probaly around 50-75g at the moment and not so much cream:(

That sounds sensible. Better to choose something you can stick to for a period of time than go too strict and not be able to keep it up. It’s surprising what difference small, sustained changes can make.

It rather depends on what type of shoes you are looking for. Is it for some particular foot condition or just comfy shoes.
I was wearing Sketchers but my physio said they were not supportive enough.
I have just bought some from Hotter which are comfortable and have arch support.
If you need wide or extra wide fitting then Cosyfeet have those. Pavers also say they do wide fitting. Or you may need corrective insoles in which case the Scholl shops would advise you.

Welcome to the forum @mudmonster

There is information about the annual foot checks you should be getting here:

Including details of seeing a podiatrist, who would be able to help assess your foot health, gait, and recommend any orthotic support you may need.

You may be able to get a referral to a podiatrist or get seen at a foot clinic if you are at risk, but other members have found the system under quite a lot of pressure since the pandemic. Alternatively you may be able to book a private appointment with a podiatrist.

Good luck with your new menu, hope it’s soon starting to get things back on track for you 🙂

Thanks for all the replies actually Inka,I didn't find the pre pandemic strict low carb that bad to follow(bread craving was the worst)As for the shoes it is just regular type shoes no orthotics required ,just something that has a wider toe box area leather uppers if possible

Clarks do some wider shoes (you need to look out for wide on the labels). I have always needed wide shoes, I find sometimes Skechers fit me for trainers. There are also online companies like Hotter

I don't know where you live but some of the Blue Diamond and Dobbies garden centres have outlets like Hotter, Pavers, Cosyeet where you can try on the shoes.

Hello ,not sure if it is a wide shoe required ,more like just a little wider toe box area,I think I will go to a well known shoe shop and get them to measure the feet.

I had a 3D scan when in the Hotter outlet at a Dobbies Garden centre. It gives the length, height, width so was able to give an accurate size. But as we all know different brands can be very different in actuality.
It showed up the fallen arches and the width difference in the foot of the leg with my injured knee.

had problems years ago, with feet after going into orthotics(don't ask) turns out feet were not the problem (pelvis /hips were) used to be able to wear most shoes& boots (hot rocks walking trainers were great) they have recently changed the foot bed so not good now

I have the same problem,@mudmonster as my feet are straight along the inner edge and flare slightly on the outer, so shoes which are rounded at the toe end are agony - Clarks were usually good until they decided to change the shape to suit those with the longest toe in the middle of their foot.
I am lucky that I am light on my feet and had the good fortune to be able to buy any shoes I found that would fit me, so I have not needed to buy shoes for a very long time. I can only advise that if you find some which are comfortable then buy a couple of pairs and wear them alternately as that can, apparently, extend their life.
You might have to be careful though, I once went a whole day wearing one black and one brown sandal after a very early start and dressing in the dim light of dawn.

Camper shoes had deliberately made mismatched pairs of shoes at one time.
I used to find them very comfortable until they started to make the sole out of something which made them slippery on a wet floor and I went A over T once.

Why do you need leather uppers?
It can limit choices.
I've found synthetic materials are much better now, and can very quickly stretch to accommodate my feet.
Having said that, I don't really wear shoes anymore, I tend to live in open toed sandals from Easter to Halloween, and closed toed the rest of the year.
I find composite synthetic soles are the most comfortable, and synthetic uppers as they dry out quickly, and stretch well to accommodate my feet.
