Just something I've recently tried
Large fat parsnip or carrot, cut into thin chips, part boil for 5 mins, drain and dry.
1-2 sprays of light cooking oil, and a sprinkle of salt and paprika. I cook mine in the air fryer, but you can also do them in the oven.
I have mine with turkey breast done in "So Maggi" paper things and veg, its a good meal to be honest.

Not going to lie, real chips are more tastier, but these are low in fat, starch and carbs.
best think I have noticed is they still fill you up, helps stop your body going into starvation panic mode when on a diet

Those sound really good @megga
Our solution for the real thing is to have the frozen oven chips and I can then count out the number I want to get to my carb count. It is not a large portion but I enjoy every one of them with some mayonnaise. Mmmm

And mine is to use frozen French Fries. You get a bigger pile for a given weight (it's why fast food shops use them) and I have a theory that the crispy surface, coming from broken down carbohydrate, reduces the effective carb content. The small size of individual chips means there is a lot more crispy per unit volume than in ordinary chips. Thats only a theory but I do know that my standard big handful of French fries has a limited effect on my BG whereas a similar volume of chip shop chips would create havoc.

Much better to use Celeriac.
I find both parsnips and carrots (which are both very sweet veggies) spike my BG too high to be worth eating.

I have celeriac chips cooked in coconut oil or butter ,less carbs more good fats

Quite like roasted veg, then just like veg boiled steamed even raw.

There is no substitute for proper chips, fresh from chippy eaten straight away while still hot.
I'm with you, absolutely love chippy chips with a battered sausage, loads of salt and vinegar, but just so bad for you. I find when I have them because of the fat content I have to give an extended bolus over 3 hours

Are sweet potatoes any good? If so does anyone have a way of cooking that makes them slightly crispy

Oooh was going to make sweet potato daal With spinach -it’s tasty but will do chickpea and spinach curry instead. Thanks

Wow that sounds adventurous! It’s so annoying, when even the healthy options are not a good option for us. I’m sure you could have a small portion. Enjoy whatever you make.

Not bad at all, nice treat.

Been on travels last 2 weeks & had fish & chips twice, off again for few days next week so might have more, refuse to put food in good/bad categories as most can be enjoyed even if just occasional treat.

Like many others, I’m careful with my potato consumption and always tend to stick to small new potatoes, cut in half, par boiled, frozen in portions of 150 grams. and baked in the oven when required. I recently bought an air fryer and have been experimenting. I buy medium sized baking potatoes, square them off by thickly peeling and cut them into fairly chunky chips. Portions of 150 grams are then quickly par boiled, frozen and cooked in the air fryer as required. The thick peelings (wedges) are treated similarly and offer an alternative to the chips. For me, they are delicious and acceptably BG friendly.
