Perhaps I should not put this here but I just want to reach out. I’m trying very hard with all this. I just feel down, tired , not giving up but not getting and better. Blood sugars by not eating many carbs dieting walking and drinking water I keep around the 7 . I’d just love a plate of chips or rice or pasta but no if I do it will be high snd then I think what’s the life. I have tried with substitute last night we had stuffed peppers instead of lasagne and I’d have loved a magnum ice cream on my birthday but nope. I can’t get all the cake ingredients snd hubby says not buying that you are on a diet no cake. This is why I am fat and type 2 diabetic my life was food. Now I just muddle the day . Go through saying I am good when I just feel bitter sad lonely unhappy in a prison type of life, exercise due to the arthritis hurts and well oh dear I am feeling sorry for me, Let’s hope I’m the only one feeling like this snd tomorrow is better .

Try to find a compromise. Yes, keeping the carbs down should help with weight and BS but you are allowed exceptions such as an occasional Magnum. Your BS will rise for a while but that won't do any real harm. Just beware that Magnums can be addictive!

Feel for you @Nayshiftin. As DaveB says you need to find a compromise. When it comes to chips, I have them a couple of times a week but my compromise is to cut down on the quantity. So, I eat them as French fries nicely seasoned with salt and pepper. The reason I do this is that although it looks a decent portion its is, in reality, not a lot by weight - it's the reason you get them in fast food joints, much more profitable than chip shop chips. Just add a steak and some mushrooms in a white wine and cream sauce and enjoy. At least I can, the rise in my BG from it is well within bounds.

Also, I have found that I can tolerate Magnums, its my go to icecream. Dunno why but they are not a problem, not like the "artisan", "farm" made ice creams that abound in this area, they are completely off limits.

I guess what I am saying is use your meter and do a bit of experimenting to see what works for you. There has got to be a way forward, sometimes it takes a bit of finding.

TBH, I think you problems may be deeper than you are admitting, getting down because you cannot have a portion of chips is a smokescreen, see your GP, but prepare to be open and honest.

I guess a lot of unanswered questions . Hungry all the time . Okay bm readings were 33 now 7.5 why still so hungry . Are bad and no exercise do good yes weight going down but hunger pangs not. I’m so depressed so tired all the time . N moaning which I hate too .

You now have a good idea of how much you can have in the way of carbohydrates to keep you blood glucose at the level you have achieved but if you are still feeling hungry you may not be eating enough fat and protein to make up for the reduction in carbs. So by adding some zero or low carb foods like eggs, cheese, or avocado to your meals may help, I seem to remember you don't like meat but if you don't mind it then that would be Ok.

I would suggest you try and keep very busy, you're body is getting used to running on a lower intake of food and that will take time and being distracted will prevent you from obsessing over food. BS from 33 to below 10 is a massive achievement so keep in mind your success so far. Go for a walk when you get bored (borrow a Dog or walk with a Dog owner) and get into a routine of regular exercise, take a bottle of water. Depression and tiredness walk hand in hand, if you lack motivation your body will respond accordingly, you are not unique and you are not alone so don't feel like you are walking on a one way path. Take a look at yourself and you should realise that you are worth more than being a target for misery, then smile cos the sun is still going to rise tomorrow and life is not a rehearsal, you just need time and understanding.

Like @Leadinglights For me, eating more fat and protein is the key to not feeling hungry. A 3 egg mushroom omelette with cheese and a salad and cheese coleslaw for breakfast usually means I don't want anything more to eat until evening time or maybe even later. If you are hungry through the day, have some nuts or cheese or eggs or a tub of olives or some veggie sticks with sour cream and chive/garlic dip. There really is no reason to be hungry and if you are worried about not losing weight, your BG levels are the more important factor so focus on controlling those and don't worry about the weight.
Many people find weight loss just happens when they are focused on keeping their BG in range.

I think trying to lose weight and control carb intake is very difficult for many people. The extreme low calorie short term diets like the Newcastle/Fast 800, to lose weight quickly and get rid of the visceral fat is known to be effective in many cases in reversing diabetes but you need to find a way to maintain the weight loss afterwards
OR
You ignore the weight issue and eat to control your BG levels and weight may or may not come off but your diabetes should be reasonably well managed and the odd treat shouldn't cause too much BG upheaval provided you are sensible about portion size and frequency.

I think there are people who can focus on both aspects at the same time and have weight loss and BG goals, but I don't think everyone can and I think you should cut yourself some slack and not worry about losing weight and eat more calories to stop you from feeling hungry and deprived and miserable but choose those calories wisely ie low carb to manage your BG levels more easily.

As regards exercise, don't be disillusioned about not seeing instant results. It may well push your levels higher during and shortly afterwards but they will come down lower later and it is often exercise which will improve your fasting reading the next day, particularly if you can do a little bit every day. I know it will be frustrating not to see results or feel kicked in the teeth by higher readings after you have pushed yourself to do exercise but the rewards come up to 48hours later and will be part of the reason why you are now getting 7s instead of 30s.

Please focus on the fantastic achievements that you have already had in reducing your levels so dramatically. That really is amazing and you should be incredibly proud of that. We know it isn't easy but I wonder if maybe you are making it harder for yourself than you need to. Eating more fat was a huge turning point for me in eating low carb and makes all the difference between it being sustainable long term or impossible.

I fully agree with Rebrascora, not everyone can focus on more than one thing at a time. Its a bit like spinning plates. So sometimes its best to try to focus on the one aspect and try to nail that as best as possible.

The start of anything is the toughest place to be but every single day focussing on the one aspect will bring improvements, some of which may not be instantly visible. The improvents will mount up over time.

So try to focus on one aspect and keep going.

Good luck

Very good advice snd positive thanks. Been for my Nordic walk and do feel better.

Thank you all if nothing else I feel someone had got me through this awful morning . I am feeling better after a walk . Think I’ll focus on blood sugars and Pat myself as you say it’s improved . I feel scared to eat too much fat and maybe that’s where I am going wrong . Scared as in type two has the scars of heart attack . It runs in the family . I’m no good my arthritic Odin is sore enough . So high fat scares me . I also don’t eat too much protein as don’t like meat . Somewhere I read today about oily fish being bad for arthritis too. I think maybe I am just very tired and been trying too hard. Need to relax a bit with this . As someone says it’s long term snd tomorrow will come and go without misery. So thanks everyone I’ll try to be positive.

That's my excuse for the huge clotted cream ice cream cone I just had, first since June last year.

I thought fish oil was supposed to be good for arthritis!

You don’t have to eat high fat @Nayshiftin There are other diets that might suit you better if you don’t like that. I think it’s important to find a way of eating that works for you as an individual. A way that helps your blood sugar, weight, general health - and that you enjoy.

I think you’ve done very well. Don’t beat yourself up. Congratulate yourself and be kind to yourself. X

Well nothing whatever is good for you, if you eat far too much of it ! So how often would you actually eat oily fish ? And if you had it once a week - then that's only one meal out of 21, which I don't believe could be regarded as excessive.

I agree , I’ve felt better today. Think I hit Rick bottom yesterday snd just needed to scream my head off . Today I have focussed on healthy eating rather than any good of limits . Will do my reading soon. Hope it’s not going to be too high but I was no different this morning . I get to speak to a ago on the 13th July hoping he will help snd refer me to things then .
