Hello,

Thanks to the great advice I have been given by yourselves, I am now on the road to reduce my HbA1c which has been consistently over 100!
You may know to that I have stopped taking the Glicizide (160mg) and solely rely on Metformin 2000mg/Canagilflorizin 300mg and the new low (ish) carb diet.

Over the last 2 weeks, my average reads were as follows:
Mornings 5.89,
Afternoon (2 hours after lunch, so 2.00pm) 7.30.
Evenings (8.00pm to 10.00pm after least 2 hours after Tea) 6.75.

Also, I do not get a read higher than 2.0 units after a meal.

My highest reads have been:
Morning 6.8
2.00pm 8.7
Night 7.7

I cannot exercise at the moment due to my eye op, once a start these reads may drop further. Also, I spoke to a Pharmacist today and I may experiment with taking my 2x 500mg earlier than Tea time, say 3.00pm, with a snack.

Q. Do any of the average reads seem excessive or where should I concentrate on to reduce the average reads a bit further?

Yes hope they can move it.

These are my views based on what I want from my own readings so opinions will differ. I aim for 4-5 am before breakfast after lunch upto 5.5 & after dinner, which I have at 7.30pm ish depending on my workload, so 9.30pm reading upto 6.5

I know you can't exercise yet but that has made a big impact doing a 30-40min am walk on treadmill but I also jog on it often twice a day so normally get over an hour in & some walking at work. You say low-ish carb diet, I was amazed how some food I thought were good had loads of carbs in, porridge for one even an apple but I still eat bread but it's Keto so very low carb, so I aim for 80-100g's of carbs a day and this allows me to eat, and most importantly, enjoy my food which keeps me full. No potatoes/rice/pasta/normal bread at all but you have to not feel deprived or you will not keep it up this is a new way of eating for me which has no end I don't see it as a short term diet.

One big thing for me is I am not taking my meds to keep eating as I was I am eating to reduce meds and although there is no guarantee that one day meds will increase, at the moment they are going down. This is me and it all depends on what BG readings your comfortable with not what others see as normal, having said that constant high readings are not going to do you any good.

Hope this helps
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thank you that's helps a lot and your reads are great and well done for keeping it all under control

When I was on Glicizide and started low carb eating I was getting pretty similar reads bar my evening reads of 4.1/4.5 and then going hypo at night. So Glicizide gone.

My carbs are now lower and include
my salad too, so 70-80g at the moment. My biggest carb source is 1 or sometimes 2 pieces of Burgen Bread, the daily Apple has gone.

I know by exercising everyday I will get the daily reads lower, so can't wait to start..

For the past 3 days I am having a Supper and that is bumping up both my morning and evening reads, but am ok with that as I have been enjoying my food- my changes need to be slow and effective to sustain for the medium or longer term.

Best regards
Niaz

Sounds like your doing great so I recon it's just the exercise that's is the key for you, nothing mad, again you want to enjoy it.

My exercise is a bit of a walk and jog for 40 mins most days.

I am still a bit worried whether I am doing enough to get my HbA1c reads down from 102 down to 50 as GP wants, will see

Only one way to find out that's why Im having a private HbA1c test can't wait for the surgery to get their act together it's due now.

Yes, good idea, definitely take away my worry.

I am just waiting for my GP appointment in 3 weeks and if it's a no then I will go ahead with a private one.

Well done @Newbie777 those numbers look very good. Your diet and exercise regime certainly seems to be bearing fruit. I'd be surprised if your HBA1C does not come down significantly - although bear in mind it is a record of your blood sugar over the past 3 months. Cheers. Nick

Cheers Nick,

Appreciate your kind comments.

Just remembered I lost weight about 3kg, so no complaints.

Unfortunately, not allowed to do any exercise due to the gas bubble in my eye, so need to wait a few weeks.

I think if the reads are done in March when I speak to my GP, then the may still be high, but for April, it would be great if I can meet GPs target of 50.
