Oh dear! Had very much hoped you would be better by now Alan. So sorry you are still struggling. I can't sleep unless I am flat out so you have my sympathies. Hope you are better soon. Please keep us updated when you can. (((Hugs)))

Alan so sorry that you are still not well. when i was poorly a few years ago i found i could not lay down and when i was in hospital there was a chap in there who slept in a chair which i had never seen before.

perhaps another chat with your doctor may come in handy if things are settling. please get well soon.

Oh No, that sounds very difficult for you. I hope you feel better soon and can get back to eating and sleeping.

Fingers crossed you will be back up to full strength this week Northie 🙂

Hope you feel better soon

I have booked a telephone appointment for this morning 🙂 Thanks for your kind messages 🙂
Hope it goes well and you get some relief / sleep afterwards.

Thanks everyone 🙂 Still feeling a bit rubbish, but much better than I was 🙂 Living on a diet of ginger nuts and sweetened L&G tea to try and keep ketones down. Main problem is lack of sleep as lying down makes things worse, so sleeping in chair ☹️
I've been sleeping in a chair for more than five years now and can't sleep lying down any more.
Tips for a good rest in a chair.
Get your feet up if you can.
I put my chair up against the bed where my husband sleeps and put my feet up onto the bed but if you have a chair away from the bed and have a pouffe or similar then that can work too.
I also put a rolled up small towel or small squishy cushion (or if you have one - one of those travelling head cushions for the car that go round your neck) behind my neck and that prevents neck/back ache.

I sleep in an IKEA poang and before that I had a nice comfy camping chair but that broke eventually and the poang is nicer as it has a bit of a rocking motion with it.

Hope you feel better soon.

Oh crumbs Alan I have only just seen this. Sending lots of hugs to you and hope you and your tummy are on the mend pronto xxx

Hi guys, quick update 🙂 I spoke to the nurse practitioner on Monday and she prescribed cyclizine. The local pharmacy delivered it a couple of ours later - excellent service! - I read the leaflet and accepted I might get a bit drowsy, which didn't bother me as I didn't have anything to do. OMG! 😱 Probably my worst reaction to a medication I can ever remember! 😱 Within an hour I became insanely tired, but it felt like the back of my brain had gone into a coma whilst the front was still fully conscious and wondering what the heck was going on 😱 I tried to sleep, but simply couldn't, despite agonising levels of tiredness :( To cap it all, I was sick a further three times and it didn't get rid of the nausea :( I then had to endure the next 8-10 hours in this state hoping for the drug to wear off, which thankfully it did 🙂 It made me feel 10-100 times worse and I am crossing that off for the rest of my life 😱 I will be reporting this side effect as it wasn't listed, but it was very real and distressing :(

Thankfully, I had a much better day yesterday and am starting to eat and drink more 🙂 This morning I managed my first cup of 'proper' tea in a week - I've been only drinking sweetened L&G and peppermint tea - and a slice of toast for breakfast. Blood sugars are under good control and ketone levels also quite acceptable given how little carbohydrate I have consumed for a week (i.e. dietary ketosis rather than any DKA threat) 🙂 Hope to try some soup later today 🙂

Thank you 🙂 I've decided that my problem with lying down is due to reflux, so I am going to raise my bed and take other recommended steps 🙂. Interestingly, I now recognise that I have had the symptoms for quite a long time - I may speak to the doctor about omeprazole, which I took after my diagnosis, although I'm reluctant currently to take more pills.

One other thing that I wasn't aware of was that you shouldn't take candesartan when you are poorly like this. As it happened, I hadn't taken my usual dose before I spoke to my doctor (I would have thrown it up anyway!) If you take this, is something to bear in mind 🙂

@Northerner you are certainly going through it and thank goodness you have got that drug out of your system, you must make sure it it put in your notes at the surgery that you cannot have this again, the side effects sound dreadful.
I would really recommend an antacid, I take one for reflux and I couldn't believe how quickly and how well it worked after two years of acid and more importantly coughing. I literally coughed on and off all day for two years and they couldn't get to the bottom of it and then a new doctor said to try an antacid, 10 days later it had completely gone. I appreciate you take a number of medications but if it really helps, hey what's one more!!
Take good care of yourself Alan, I hope you really buck up soon xx

Yes! I have had the cough too! I have been putting that down to the asthma, and the frequent hiccoughing down to the asthma medication! 😱 🙂 Anything you would recommend, or do you have it prescribed? 🙂

This has been my best medicine so far 😱 🙂

reflux is just the pits probably caused by the amount of sickness you have had. try milky stuff and also bi-carbonate also doctors do proper medications or you can buy some in the chemists guardium i think they call it.

i am sat here suffering from it too am on meds but they can sometimes let you down badly so am drinking milk.

for sickness doctors can prescribe metoclopramide very few side effects as cyclizine can't all ways be tolerated as you found out.

god think i am sounding like a doctor 🙂
