Hi, hopefully some of our members have children who fit the criteria for this and can help out:

My name is Natalie Byrom and I am a researcher at the University of Warwick on a project which aims to find new ways of supporting young people aged 12-15 with long term conditions. We are especially interested in finding ways to support young people with diabetes who are making the sometimes difficult transition from paediatric to adolescent to adult services.

We are very keen that our programme of research is directed by and responsive to the views and needs of young people. We are holding an event on Saturday 25th June between 9.30am and 3.30pm at the University of Warwick and would love it if we could get as many young people as possible to come and contribute.

The theme of the event is "One Day, One Minute, One Change". The aim is that by the end of the event the young people will have produced a one minute long film which explores or explains one change they would like to see in the way their condition is communicated about by their clinical teams, in the media or by their friends and family.

The films will be put together and displayed on our project YouTube channel ( http://www.youtube.com/user/LYNCSproject ) at conferences and used to inform our research. We feel it offers a real opportunity for young people to communicate their views to the people who make decisions about their healthcare, as well as contributing to research which aims to improve the experience of young people living with a long term illness. The day starts at 9.30am and we expect it to finish at around 3.30pm. All equipment is provided, and we will also supply lunch and refreshments.

By way of thanks for taking part, we are offering each young person a ?15 iTunes voucher as well as the chance to bring their friends and family to the University of Warwick PPI Symposium on 7th July at 7pm to watch the first screening of their film, and hear about some of the work produced by the other young people who have been contributing to our project as Young Researchers.

If anyone has any questions, let me know and I will pass them on to Natalie 🙂

Has she only just told you? If so, she doesn't believe in giving advance notice, does she?!?

I guess everyone near enough to Warwick University will know this, but just to remind anyone, Warwick University is actually on the south edge of Coventry, NOT in Warwick. I've spent lots of time there over the years, as my Mum did her degree there when we were teenagers, plus I've been assistant stage manager for various productions, visited a couple of art exhibitions and attended a few training courses.

Warwick Medical School was established in 2000, became independent from Leicester in 2007 and is the only graduate-only entry scheme in the UK - so it is keen on doing things well and differently.

Is it only young people between 12-15?
surely she should of widen that from about 11-17? would of made more sense?

.... and stupidly I always think, Copepod, from Cov city centre you go along the KENILWORTH Road to get to it, then when you get to the particular traffic lights where you need to turn right for the Medical School, the signpost has disappeared ....... so you have to keep your eyes peeled for the actual road sign on the turning (Gibbet Hill Road)

Don't go down the Warwick road else you will land up in .... Warwick ! LOL
