Hello folks
I'm new to all this and took my first ever dose of Metformin this morning. I haven't been able to keep my eyes open all day, every time I sit down I nod off. Is this normal?

Hi Carrie, I would imagine that the drowsiness is more likely due to higher than normal blood sugar levels than a direct side-effect of the metformin - things should improve as your treatment begins to work and your levels start to come down. t may also be that you've been very tense and stressed, and this can also cause tiredness. Hope you get a good night's sleep and are feeling much better by the morning 🙂

Drowsiness is not a known side effect from metformin. At the moment in my office people are falling asleep because there are a number of viruses going around.

It is possible your system is getting used to the medication and the lower levels, we all react in different ways. If you have any concerns, have a chat to your doctor or nurse.
