me again

I'm heading to the docs tomorrow to just have a chat through my worries about the diabetes thing and ask for any advice on getting myself better sorted and end this irritating rebellion. Hopefully I'll be able to be sent from there up to the hospital for my A1C test. Anyone know how long it would take before I get the results back?

Sam

I think practice varies according to where you go but I always have mine done at the diabetes clinic every 6 months and I get the results at the same appointment about 20mins later. But if it's taken at the GPs or a general blood clinic then, for me, it takes about a week.

Ahem..... blonde coming through :(:(:(:(

i got mine within 5 mins once! my DSN did a normal glucose test on my finger using a special strip and used a (quote her) "very expensive machine". This was my first one after 2 months on the pump though. if its dr's its usually next time i see them

Good luck, I hope it goes well and you get some answers or at least come away feeling a bit more positive!

Yes, As Aymes said, when you get your results depends on the facilities at the practise. I also get mine in about 20 minutes from my clinic but if I get it done at a GP or at the walk-in centre I normally have to wait a week.

tehe, me too :( very blonde and occasionally very dippy!

Thanks guys. A week I can deal with...just. Y'know, I just wanna know what my levels are so I can work out what to do to make myself that little bit better. I'm determined to do this and have a big list of questions to ask the GP (I refuse to go to the guy at the hospital clinic now...at least not him. If the proper doctor was there I'd go see him...) so here's hoping my doctor will actually know what he's talking about :D

I've always had a host of other tests done at the same time, so normally have to wait around 3-5 working days whilst the lab process things, but I think the HbA1c can be done more or less on the spot if they have the right facilities.

okay sorry for sounding thick but what is an A1c test?😱 all im having at the mo is the finger pricking glucose test tho after 3 mts i believe i have a fasting blood test.

If you click on HbA1c at the top of the website page, it will take you to a page that explains it.🙂

thanks, i think that is wot i am having at the end of my 3 mts, i admit im finding all this terminology a bit of a minefield.

Here it 2-3 working days

Donald

never had them done at the gp's and take on average 10 mins at diabetic clinic

Usually a couple of days for me if I get someone to look it up ont he computer for me, a week if I wait for my GP to get the result back.

I hope you can get the blood taken soon, do you know how it works where you are?

I had it done today, after getting in a right state 😱

according to the doctor itll be back in about a week, so I'll phone on erm...tuesday as an early one i think. Here's hoping its not through the roof :(
