Hi there everyone - I am struggling with high bs readings currently because my doctor has taken me off Metformin and Lisinipril because my kidneys are playing up in blood tests. I have just started on a blood sugar diet to try to treat myself while I am off the pills for the next month!
I was diagnosed Type 2 12 years ago and have been on various medications over the years. My last doctor tended to just throw a new pill at me rather than investigating further! 😡 My new doctor is now referring me, AT LONG LAST, to the Diabetic Clinic at my local hospital. By the way, I am 70, female, widowed, and not very active because of severe arthritis and spondylitis. Another problem is severe, and I mean very severe itching after showering! Does anyone else suffer this I wonder.
The photo is my little Yorkshire Terrier Lily, aged 11. My constant companion. 🙂image.jpeg She gets excellent Broadband signals with those satellite dish ears! 😉

Hi LilyLou, welcome to the forum, glad to hear about the referral....

Me too Martin! Been floundering for some time now and need the support! Will post what I get to know ...... eventually! You know what hospital appointments are like!

Hi Lilylou, welcome to the forum 🙂 Good to hear you are finally getting a chance to see an expert instead of just being fed medications! I hope it happens soon and is productive for you 🙂 Please let us know if you have any questions and we will be happy to help. Lily looks gorgeous, hardly surprising as she is a Yorkshire terrier! 🙂 Not sure about the itching - how long have you been suffering from it? I have heard it mentioned here in the past, in relation to high blood sugar levels. Does your doctor have any ideas?

Doctor has prescribed high mg antihistamines but these don't work too well and result in upset stomach and trotting off to the loo! I have taken to daily strip washing to avoid the itching and would just love to have a nice, luxurious, long lasting shower! Hopefully the diabetic clinic may have an answer. Will keep you posted.
(I was married to a Yorkshireman (Bradford, Leeds then Shropshire [where I am now] for 15 years - widowed 16 years as of last week and still miss him!) I obviously can't disagree about Lily - she is absolutely scrumptious!!

When they first added fluoride to the water - I started to come out in itchy splodges after bathing. However though it took years - eventually it stopped.

If it's only just started I think I'd be inclined to think it was to do with higher BG - however you MIGHT have suddenly become allergic to the shower gel etc you use. Try using it to wash some bit of you, and leave it on for a little while before rinsing off - cos if it is that you are allergic to, you'll have the same reaction.

Doesn't matter what you use or how long you've used it - you can be allergic suddenly!

Could equally well apply to your soap powder and laundry softener - after all - we all launder our towels, flannels etc !

Thank you for your welcome. That is soul destroying for you. So few with MODY are diagnosed quickly. Hope you go on ok.
I'm lucky Ive got a great gp who picked up on the fact that I am a bit odd!!!

Thanks Jenny, just logged on and saw your response.
I've been itching now for approx 18 months with very little advice from doctors except prescription shower gel, and Doublebase cream to use afterwards with little or no effect! Special and expensive soap and washing powder. Very frustrating because I love my shower! Anyway, await referral and take a list of things I want to discuss! Be there all day at rate am going! Do wonder myself if it's because BS out of control at the moment because of being taken off all but one Metformin diabetic med, but still taking quite a few others for other 'complaints' any one of which could be the itching culprit!
Thank you for your support and advice!

Aren't we all "odd"? I think I can safely say I'm in that particular club too with my various ailments! Thinking of joining the "funny farm" at times!
Good luck with your treatment. I think I've found a decent gp at last!

My son has suffered from eczema all his life, we noticed when we were away his skin was often better, we live in a hard water area! Also companies often make minor tweaks to formulations of products without flagging it on containers!

I'm sorry your son suffers eczema. My skin is only a bit dry at the moment, no rash or blotches even when itching. I have been looking at a site talking about aquagenic pruritus (itching when in contact with water for any length of time). Am amazed at how many folk suffer with this. Tut! Something else to consider! It's mind blowing!

I was just about to ask - do you ever have a bath (as opposed to a shower) - and does it have the same effect? Is it perhaps the prolonged heat that is setting you off?

Welcome to the forum Lilylou. I love your Yorkie. :D

When my husband was living we had to have the bathroom converted because he was unable to step into a bath. I have bathed in a bath when I've been on holiday and I still itch afterwards. This is an all over itch which is very difficult not to scratch, and on my back, unable to reach!! - I tend to rub with a dry towel to ease the itch. There is no visible result for this itching on my skin! I only take cool, almost cold showers anyway because am a warm person without added heat! thanks for your input though!
