Diagnosed a month ago, hadn't seen a doctor in years, 57yrs of age thought I ought to get a bit of an MOT done. Blood pressure fine 120's/70's, heart rate low 50's, cholesterol 3.9 and 69 for blood sugar. Started the fast 800 diet straight away, double check on bloods to confirm diagnosis, level 64. Lost 16 pounds in weight so far and scared myself silly by reading all the worst case scenarios. That's about it, my sad little story☺️

I'm new too and on the Newcastle Diet. Lost 7.3kg now and bloods have come down from HbA1c of 55 to 49 so you are doing it right. This forum is so helpful I feel like it has let me know so much.

Welcome @Oggy64 Not a sad story at! 16lbs is great. I'm very similar - 59 years old, started the 800 calorie diet in May 2021 once I received the T2 Diabetes diagnosis. You should get plenty of advice and encouragement on this forum. Heart rate in low 50's is very good too 🙂
I think you will sort the blood sugar out on the 800 diet. I'm 32 weeks into the journey. It was a great success, my blood sugars are fine now. I'm engaging in the challenge to keep my weight loss.

That's an impressive weight loss, nice one, so are you still classed as diabetic. Sorry all very new to me.

Last time I spoke to the Diabetes nurse, she said I should do another HbA1c test in 6 months, and them see her. At that point she might take me off the register. It is your HbA1c results that doctors use to classify you as having T2 diabetes - so as far as I'm concerned I'm not diabetic. Others might disagree and say I am 'in remission'.

Studies have discovered 100s of genetic variations that in combination result in a greater susceptibility to T2 diabetes. If members of your family are diabetic, then you may be more genetically susceptible.

Research demonstrates that populations of people (e.g. in South America) have these genetic traits but never had a problem with T2 diabetes, until they were introduced to a western (high calorific processed) diet.

So Type 2 diabetes it's a life style problem that some people are genetically more prone to.
