What a palaver your having. I hope you get the correct info soon.

Just incase this is if any help , in my area it’s the waste collection team that collect and deliver mine, so it might be a good idea to go online or phone your councils waste collection service

Husband has managed to find this list of local collection points. Don’t know how I didn’t. He’s a good egg!

I will call the Warrington wolves one today as it’s on my way to work and check it’s correct. Will be handy if it is.

I have been advised by my local CCG that there was a national directive during last year (from NHS England) drawing attention to the regulations regarding disposal of sharps generated in a domestic environment. These regs state that such sharps are regarded as domestic waste and the responsibility for disposal lies with the local authority.

In my area (south essex) it appears that all surgeries, clinics and pharmacists were instructed to stop accepting/exchanging filled sharps bins with effect from 1st January 2019 and refer people to the local authority for disposal services.

My local authority has sub-contracted the disposal of domestic sharps to their waste disposal contractor (Veolia) who will only collect bins by prior arrangement at a charge of £8.50 (£2.25 to supply a new bin (size not specified) and £6.50 for collection). Users of their service have to register and pay in advance.

This issue has been covered in the local press and the above situation publicly confirmed by the councillor responsible for public health.

Update on this issue. I am advised that as from 18th February the collection service will be free. I doubt however that the service will be discreet in that a truck emblazoned with Hazardous Waste Collection will turn up sometime between 06:00 and 15:00 on Friday!
 
I have had letter from my Surgery in the last week informing me, they are no longer allowed to accept filed sharps bin. With the information to contact local council.
 
It seems to be so different everywhere. I’ve been told yesterday that I should be able to take mine back to the doctor surgery and exchange it on prescription. Despite this online info suggests I would have to contact the council for collection though. I guess when mine is full I will find out!

Mine was just a recent change. Though the variation across the country has been the case for a number of years.
