Is this any worse than normal pasta and if not, is it much better either? It still seems to have a fairly high card content?

If you want an alternative to normal pasta then black bean or edamame bean pasta is about 15g carbs per 100g so pretty low carb.
The thing is to compare like with like as some of the information is confusing as to whether they mean carbs per cooked weight or uncooked, so look carefully.

Portion control is important too. I use Red Lentil Pasta, which is 24% carb, but restrict myself to a 40g portion. That's a decent amount for something like a Tuna Pasta Bake or a Pasta Bolognese, I find.
