Just been to the DN to get my latest HbA1c results. Since June I have been off the Metformin, so managing things on diet and exercise alone. I have been able to maintain my weight at around 170-172lb (Much as I'd love to get into the 11stone something range - I seem to have found my equilibrium).

But anyway back to the last few months, I have been good on the diet and exercise, but not a tough as I have been. The odd occasional treat of something has crept in, but I still pretty much avoid potatoes, and no rice, pasta, bread.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I thought the HbA1c was going to creep up a bit, I was concerned I might be having a conversation about perhaps going onto one tablet. But no. No where close.

Latest HbA1c came in at THIRTY. I couldn't believe it. Also pleasingly my overall cholesterol figure is down to 4.7 (was 5.5 last time).

Now because of this amazing result, the DN and Doc are taking me off the Diabetes Register. The DN will check my HbA1c on an annual basis from now on.

So now, officially, I am classed as impaired fasting glycemia / pre-diabetes. Essentially I am in Diabetes Remission.

I know this is as good as it can get. I know I can never be complacent. I know that I could deteriorate as I get older. But right here, right now, I am celebrating the positive. Shampoo has gone in the fridge.

Fabulous

That’s fantastic news . Well done

Congratulations from another who is off the diabetic register.🙂 I cheated quite a lot before my last HbA1c, so whenI was told it was 36, I was well chuffed.🙂

That's great news!

Incidentally guys, do you think it makes much of a difference to your HBA1c if they take your blood first thing in the morning, with only a cup of tea in your system?

No difference at all! 🙂 The HbA1c measures your blood cells exposure to glucose over a 6-12 week period, so this morning's breakfast will only affect a few brand new blood cells, not the vast majority 🙂

Well done. Like you, I’ve got things under good control with a fairly good diet and plenty of exercise. I’ve managed to calculate the small amounts of potatoes, brown rice and wholewheat pasta I can tolerate but I can’t resist the occasional indulgence which brings me back down to earth with a tut,tut reprimanding spike. Pleased with my numbers but not confident that any sort of remission is on the cards.

Thanks - I guess I just had a thought in case I might have foxed the result by not having a big breakfast before the blood sample...

Very well done PG ~ Your patience and determination paid off..........Awesome-Pic-600x293.jpg

Wow, @PinkGrapefruit! Well done, indeed! I am also one who's off the Metformin (will be 2 years in January) and managing by diet and, er, exercise...though not as much as I used to 😳
