Worried about complications

Hi @DannyDs and welcome

Sorry you have had problems with your eye and are worried about complications, it is hard not to overthink and dwell on things especially when needing treatment. Retinopathy is a very tough complication to put to the back of your mind, it's literally right in front of you but you sound as if you've done really well to get things into shape & get treatment in good time. It is kinder on the blood vessels to decrease your HbA1c slowly when dealing with retinopathy, perversely too rapid tightening of glucose management can accelerate retinopathy progression which is not what anyone would want.

As said above & as someone who is living with the damage of proliferative retinopathy I would look at Time in Range. If you can smooth out rises and variation in glucose levels that will be kinder on the fine eye blood vessles. Keeping all the other diabetes related stuff in good range all contributes to a better outcome - blood pressure, cholesterol, stopping smoking if you do.

There's an element of luck, genetics, era of diagnosis, number of years since diagnosis involved in what happens to us but the main thing is keeping blood glucose as stable and in range as possible and getting the screening checks and any follow up. Wishing you well.
