evening all,
I'm about to start a new job as a sales rep, so I will be spending a lot of time driving and staying in hotels. Any advice on what to do about food is appreciated, I did have a subway the other day and my bgl went up 1.2 but I don't want to be relying on subway too often.

Hi Anthony, good luck with the new job! 🙂 Tricky when you have to rely on sandwich shops and hotel food, as they can be quite carb-heavy :( I'm afraid I can't offer any help, being in the fortunate position of being able to make all my own meals and hence know what goes in them, but hopefully others will be along to offer tips and advice 🙂

Can you get soup and a salad? If you ask some places are able to give you a nutritional break down of their products which will help. Know what you mean about relying on sandwich shop food. ARe there any other places you could go to? M&S do a range of healthier food as does Boots.

SHould have said at the beginning, good news about the job too

I've worked out a plan when I'm away, Costco do a 1kg tub of couscous that I can bag in to portions. All need to do is boil a kettle in the morning add to couscous in a Tupperware and that's lunch sorted, not exciting I know and maybe I can have a treat in the evening

You might find cous cous a bit carb heavy: it is pasta after all. When I used to go away I took 9 bars and Graze boxes with me for lunches. They keep without refrigeration and are quite satisfying (I choose the Graze boxes that are lower in carbs). You could bag up portions of nuts in much the same way with less impact on blood sugar than cous cous.

Hi Anthony, I have been in that situation nearly all my working life. Not normally in the same place for a day. I took a test at hosp about carb counting & the 3 Dsn could not believe I guessed them all right (luck 😱). I keep well clear of high carbs & cakes etc. Good luck with new job !

If you could do a bit extra dinner at night, if you cook then, you could pack the extra in a box with some low carb staples to bulk up next day. Also homemade soup in a thermos would be very little hassle to have with you. Low carb wraps are good and don't take much to make.

I might have misunderstood but I gathered that Anthony is working away from home so probably can't cook or take anything requiring refrigeration.
