Wildy fluctuating sugar levels

I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for a number of years. Recently my blood sugar levels have been consistently high, at one point it was 28, I am now on insulin for the first time combined with metformin and gliclazide. I take my glucose readings first thing in the morning and the lowest that it has been in the past few days is 7. In the evening I test my sugar levels and they are in the range of 17-19. I avoid carbs like the plague, well at least I think I do. Why does my glucose level fluctuate so wildly?

Welcome to the forum @daveherbert1954 - sorry to hear you have been struggling. It may be that your pancreas ‘beta cells’ have been worn out over time and you can no longer produce enough insulin for your background needs along with any carbs you are eating.

Perhaps you could post an example of what you eat and drink in a day for other T2s to comment on?

Probably worth speaking to your Dr/nurse about your medication and insulin doses as it doesn’t sound like they are keeping up with your requirements.
