Hi Friends,

i'm a bit confused!!, my morning fastings read about low 6s sometimes mid 5s

type 2 diet and excersice, no change in what i have been eating...started swimming, swam last night...this morning fasting was 7.0!!!!

i nearly fell through floor

i have lost 15lbs, started to swim twice a week...i do lots of aerobics in the water, lunges, knees up...running etc...so i dont waste my time in the pool, finished swimming at 10pm,

i am so hoping not to go on meds when i have my next bloodt test end of nxt month!!

any idead please?

just to mention..trying to be sparing with the strips....i ate 2 weetabix made with hald water and milk as always....then for lunch salad with ham, 2 hours later BS was 5.6

thanks for your time xx

Hi I'm afraid that I don't why this has happened but I hope that it is just a one off "blip" for you. Please don't let it put you off all of the exercise, you are doing fantastically:D

No really good ideas either, sorry, however as always keep an eye on it and keep a diary of it.

Half an idea floating about in my brain is that exericse in the short term can push your BG up, but then it comes down after (don't ask me for timings; I dunno except I do know it's supposed to act for up to c 48hours afterwards) so perhaps going to bed fairly soon after the exercise somehow affected that?

WOW ! you're doing so well!! great that you're exercising like that, and as AJ says, there's no telling why with 'D' It's is probably just a one off blip.. I find my level do strange things with no explanation sometimes, then next time - fine !! so keep up the good work, I bet you feel better for it too, right?

Hi eat2live.

I personally would be delighted that I only occasionally get a 7. As AJLang said, there's no way of knowing why you are slightly higher some mornings than others, but from your post meal BG it sounds as though you are within range most of the time. 🙂

There is a massive list of variables that can affect blood glucose but the sad thing is that most of them can never be measured. The BG meter tells us the outcome but not the cause. :(

I hope that makes some sense and I wouldn't worry about the fluctuations as long as they don't go too high.

Rob

A one off reading is to be expected really, maybe even several. The body is not a clockwork machine unfortunately! 🙂

Keep an eye on things and if the readings continue like that then you may need to review your medication with the GP. Although, having said that, 7 is not a shabby fasting reading especially in the morning really.

I hope it was just a blip though,

Andy 🙂

thanx so much for your replies as always i feel much better now🙂

i;m not on meds just diet only for the 1st 3 months to see how it goes,

susie, as regards to feeling better, its taking its time in making me feel better🙄

but i'm getting there ....i think lol

thanx again everyone xx

hi,
just a thought, wheatabix is v high in carbs and can cause higher readings......but so can some hand cleaners and wipes, mucky hands ( dont make cakes for the family before doing blood sugars)!, infections raise readings, so can stress, fear etc. be aware if you are doing very physical workouts your body needs plenty of protein for your muscles(which wont raise your bs).
food is easy to see if it changes bs too much, just test 1, 2 3 or even 4 hours after high carb foods and see what spikes you get.
btw. do you always check your bs at the same time, and at the same period of time after awakening, cos your body can release some glucose into your system to energise your body to physically get out of bed!
well theres a few reasons, in other words dont worry too much, could be anything! good luck.
