Hi All
I am writing this not just as a boast, but also as a thank you to the people who have helped me on here and also in the hope that newly diagnosed people can see that there is light at the end of the tunnel?and it is worth changing your lifestyle ? it DOES work!
I was diagnosed back in May this year with type 2 and I had an Hba1c of 20.9 ? scared to hell ? I was put on Metformin 500 twice a day. My doctor did not give me much information, I was like a rabbit in the headlights freaked out ? looking on the net & scaring myself silly all the horror stories ? is that going to happen to me? When will that happen to me, this is an incurable disease and it?s progressive?what the hell does that mean to me?
I came on here soon after that as I did not know what was going on and was in a bad way emotionally ? I particularly remember 5am the first Sunday after I had started taking the drugs, I felt very lightheaded and weak I did not know if I was having a hypo ? what is a hypo anyway ? will I go into a coma if I go back to sleep etc etc ? I was about to take myself to casualty but I send a post and someone came back really quickly & calmed me down! Explained everything clearly in English not medical language and helped me feel much better. Since then I have dipped in and out of the forums asking questions (most of them really stupid ones) Sometimes commenting on other peoples questions with my limited experience but I always feel good after I get an answer from people who are or were in a similar boat to me? They are not necessarily the answer that you would get from your nurse or doctor they are just answers from fellow sufferers saying ?this is what I do, or have done, or have felt? just brilliant! THANK YOU ALL!
Ok ? So here comes the boast - I just got my latest Hba1c and I am so proud to say that it is now down to 5.4 ? There is no denying I have worked really hard I have lost about 1.5 stone through diet and loads of exercise, but I have not felt better than I do now in years?fitter healthier more energy.
I just need to keep this going, I know it?s not going away, but the change of lifestyle is possible and now I can really see & feel the results!
