Hi All, as a parent of a 14yr old diagnosed 15 months ago we are trying to push for a Pump. Im very keen to find out recommendations in advance before I think we end up self funding. My daughter is very engaged with good practices but struggles to bring her levels down. We are leaning towards a Omnipod with the main advantage of it being tubeless. Our care team are pushing T-Slim at the moment as their preferred choice once we finally get on the list for a pump review

Grateful for any responses help and or advice

Use omnipod pump, dont have any issues with it & went for it as its tubeless.

Currently use Dash handset rather than pdm, its smart just looks like mobile phone but needs charged most days.

Is OmniPod available from your clinic?
There is no point setting your heart on a pump which is not available to you.

There are a few T-Slim users around. I think @everydayupsanddowns uses it and I think @Sally71 's daughter does. (Apologies for the tag guys if I am wrong.)

Your best option is to find out what pumps your clinic offers as like @helli says you don’t want to set your heart on a certain pump and then find out your clinic doesn’t offer it.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You mention self funding a pump. Is this because you specifically want the Omnipod and it isn't offered by your clinic?
The reason I ask is that pumps need a lot of support when setting up especially as a new pumper and you will need to rely on your daughter's team for help, particularly during the first few months of pumping. If they are not trained in the Omnipod then they may not be able to give that support. I am not quite sure how self funding would work but I imagine it will need to be done through your daughter's consultant somehow.
You mention that your daughter is struggling to bring her levels down. Has she done a basal test to assess whether her basal dose(s) is/are correct or if perhaps a different basal insulin with a different profile of release, might suit her better.
Which insulins is she using? Does she have Freestyle Libre?

Yes I’ve been using the tSlim since 2020, and self-fund Dexcom so that it acts as a hybrid closed loop.

Happy to answer any questions you have 🙂

My advice is to find out all the pumps her clinic offers, then research each one thoroughly online via reviews, official websites and YouTube videos.

I’ve used a pump for more than 20 years. I much prefer tubed pumps as they’re better tech IMO and can be moved round more easily according to what you wear.
