I have just learnt this from @Docb in a post in 7 day waking average

You can turn signatures on and off like this... Click on your username in the top line to get the drop down box and then click on preferences. On the list there is a check box against, "show peoples signatures with their posts". Check it and you will see signatures, uncheck it and you will not

Brilliant. I have just made it so much easier to check the forum on my phone.
I wonder what other unknown unknowns I have missed.

Any tips from others. Remember some of us are tech numpties so things that you
might think are obvious are not obvious to us.

Thank you for the reminder @SB2015
I've just been through and revised my settings. I hadn't realised how open the Privacy settings were so made them a tad more restrictive.
Nothing personal against the members but surprised how much was available to everyone regardless of membership.

Never read signatures or look at members profiles anyway, don't read all threads & posts depending on content, think we all view forum differently as with life.

With the signatures on, I found that some of them took up the whole screen on my phone and I was doing a lot of scrolling to read the next message. Now that they are hidden I just get the messages, and still know what type of diabetes they have. It works better for me.

I found out when I mentioned how annoying it was on a mobile to an admin, so mine is definitely off!

The Covid jab for diabetics and the Less than 30 minutes exercise ads are 'in the way', I have to refresh my screen every time. Oh and I can't do the smiley etc... faces!
I had to be told how to do emojis, it’s not obvious. For me, at any rate, there’s a toolbar above where I’m typing my reply, and if you click on the three little vertical dots two thirds of the way along, it drops down more options. Some people have found that entire toolbar greyed out, I think, in which case there used to be a cog symbol you could press to restore it, but that seems to have disappeared now,
(you can tell I’m a tech dinosaur, I’m sure there are proper names for all these things)

Yes the hiding of some menu options was part of the forum software upgrade unfortunately. I think they tried to ‘clean up’ the menu so that each element was bigger and more pressable by a finger/thumb.

Once you’ve found things it’s easy enough... but it did take a bit of getting used to. :(

The ‘emoji’ menu is under the circled dots on my phone...

And the ‘cog’ on and off of menu options are greyed out now looks like...

and is under the right-hand dots.

alternatively for emojis you can just type the standard character combinations that we used to use on mobiles in the old days.

so

: and ) makes 🙂
: and ( makes :(
; and ) makes 😉
: and D makes :D
: and P makes 😛

Etc etc

@everydayupsanddowns Don't have what you've got! Plus my phones have always had proper emojis on them. I'll carry on regardless!!

Yes the emoji system on the forum isn’t like the huge libraries offered on smartphones I’m afraid. It just reinterprets the text and displays the appropriate symbol.
