I've recently been diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes and have started testing my blood glucose levels pre and post-meals. The recommended time to wait between tests is 2hrs but the advice doesn't say whether the post-meal test should be 2hrs after the pre-meal test or 2hrs after finishing the meal? Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Hi,

It's usually 2 hours after eating because the objective of that test is to see what effect the food you ate has on your blood glucose levels.

It's roughly 2 hours anyway so don't get too hung up on the precise time if you are a little late. Another thing to bear in mind is that it's overall trends of many readings over time that you are looking for rather than individual measurements. That's because the meters tend to be a bit inaccurate.

Hope that helps.

The food starts digesting when you start eating not when you finish eating so I would say 2 hrs after starting eating

Apologies for interrupting on your post @rg but (my question is for anyone to answer) is this the same Type 1 diabetes ie doing a 2 hour test after the first mouthful?

If you want to see if you are spiking @mum2westiesGill then yes, 2 hours from when you start eating.
