I know that folk self-test with a BG monitor, 1 and / or 2 hours after starting eating. This is fine, for me, after breakfast and lunch, as I don’t eat 1 - 2 hours after these meals. However, regarding our evening meal, we will, for example, eat the main meal at say 5:30pm, but then at around 6:45pm or so, we will have a small fruit salad.

Therefore, at what time should I do my first and second BG test?

Thank you for your advice. 🙂

When I was still tring things out I ate dessert later than my evening meal. I just tested before the main meal, then before the dessert and then two hours after that - which seemed to give consistent results - though a couple of times I decided against dessert with carbs when I saw what my level was after the main meal.

Ah, good idea. I’ll do that. Many thanks Drummer.

Hello Lucy,
Sounds like a good plan from Drummer.
Just to flag though that I used to have a piece of fruit in the evening, but found that it raised my early morning BG levels quite a lot.
I now try to not eat at all after evening meal, and eat breakfast as late as I can. My theory is that this gives my system as long as possible to fast and recover.
Easier to say than do though! If I do crave for something then I try a hot drink, or a few brazil nuts.

Thank you Kay. I’ll do a few trial and errors and see what the results are. 🙂
