i don't really drink any sweet fizzy pop unless I'm out but do occasionally get a craving for it. usually reach for lemonade or a lemon/lime something.

this morning.
1 slice or wedge of lime
4-5 mint leaves

muddle up the lime and mint
add ice
add soda water.

it wasn't sweet, it wasn't the same as a lemonade or squash but it really hit the spot, very fresh and satisfying. its something that i have quite often but the first time i've had it since being told to watch what I eat and drink

if you aren't the type of person to use up the entire lime, slice or wedge up the whole lime and pop it in the freezer on a baking tray. once frozen you can just bag it up and use as you need to. I'll get through the whole lime in around 3-5 days.

works well with lemon too.
lime and one small strawberry or a few raspberries but you need to use a sieve (i dont do this very often)

what are your go to alternatives

lemon or lime wedge or both, lots of ice and soda stream 🙂 if at work, same but just plain water.

Supermarket brand bottled flavoured fizzy water. Think the recipe (and method) that @notmez suggests is a Mojito without the alcohol!

A drink I haven't tried yet, which was recommended by some friends (apparently it's popular in Scandinavian countries) is an espresso coffee mixed with (slimline, if you prefer) tonic. They can't get enough of it! Sounds rank but will deffo give it a try.

Mojito without the alcohol!
pretty much the same thing. usually if you are out and have a virgin/mojito there is a little simple syrup in it.
they often also add the soda and then a dash of lemonade on top to added sweetness.

If I'm buying a commercial flavoured water, I try to go for the fizzy waters that just have flavouring added and no sweetener (artificial or otherwise). Ugly ones are nicer than they sound, though if you're used to sweetened flavoured water they may not taste "right" at first.

We've never bought any from anywhere other than a supermarket, we always buy several every few weeks so have extra bottles in the cupboards at home and in the Moho. Hence, never heard of the brand Ugly! Open bottle always in whichever fridge - until grandkids come, help themselves (which to be fair we've always encouraged them to do 'you know we don't have pop in this house' - and don't mention they've finished a bottle ......

It was in a supermarket that I first found Ugly! I think Tesco, though not sure if they still sell it
