What's up with my ears then?

Ok, this one isn't diabetes-related (I think).

I've noticed that my ears do something a bit weird at specific sounds - for instance, if someone is hitting something with a hammer nearby, I hear a funny crackling sound, a bit like when you've got bubble bath in your ears. It only happens when I'm hearing sounds of a particular volume or pitch and my hearing is good. Just wondering, does this happen to anyone else (ie is it normal) and is there any way of stopping it?

I dunno Deus, I suffer from tinnitus and find that my ears are effected in a simiLr way by those sorts of sounds, may be worth a check up?

Anything like that needs checking out Deus - when was the last time you had your hearing checked anyway? - you know the last time you had your toes tickled, could you hear the tuning fork singing before she put it on your feet? (if you can, your hearing is pretty much 100% anyway I reckon!) It never hurts to have someone have a look down em through an oculoscope (is that the right word??) occasionally I always think - but opportunities for that these days seem pretty rare.

Have you ever had a noisy job?

I have tinnitus like Stephknits and I have a permanent steam kettle whistling in my ears, not sure I'd hear crackling over that. I agree that it's worth getting it checked if only for peace of mind.

Ooo fellow tinnitus sufferers! It's like a mental torture isn't it?

Crackling like you describe almost sounds like a wax problem Deus but worth checking out.

I suffer from wax issues. Used to get my ears syringed regularly, but bought my own syringing kit & do it myself now. But you really should get it checked out.

Yep, I'd blame wax first. I had a similar issue when noises of a certain volume would set my ear off humming! Eventually, when the wax build-up was so much that my hearing suffered, I eventually went along to the nurse and had it syringed (just my right ear for some reason, the left is fine). Since then, no problem!

Just in case it is ear wax, put some olive oil down your lughole a couple of times a day. That'll soften any wax that is there and the nurse may be able to syringe it there and then. Otherwise it might be too hard and you'll have to wait. If you're lucky, the wax may come out of its own accord before then.

Sounds like you have some form of obstruction in your ears, perhaps as simp,e as some waxy build up. I think a look inside would be in order.

New to all this and trying to understand everything about type 1.

Hubs has had a popping sound, "like water in the ears for the past week and can't work out if it's diabetes related. He said he slept funny on his ears and will have him get it checked out but is there a possibility it could be related?

Information out there doesn't really seem relevant...!

Any help would be much appreciated!

It isn't diabetes related Ayma - but he should get it checked, anyway! Again - sounds like wax but I'd get it checked rather than treat it yourself, just in case whatever you did could make it worse!
