Spoke to a new doctor and she confirmed that the max dose of metformin I should be on is 2000 mg, which leads to the question why have I been kept on 3000 mg for the past numerous years with out a doctor querying the dose.

She increased the glizlazide to 160 mg in the morning, and she was concerned enough and asked if I new the hypo signs in case I went hypo. She also freely gave me a repeat prescription of 200 strips to monitor myself. Thankfully when coming down from the 20's I had hypo symptoms at around the mid 5.0's so know what to look out for.

Though for a few days to reduce the risk of a hypo will only take 120 mg to see what happens. she also wants me to report back to her in a weeks time to see how things are going.

My concern is why the initial sudden rise and now this rise again so soon. I know I not perfect in what I eat and I am constantly trying to work out the problems. just one step closer then 10 back, and if I continued to monitor as the doctors I normally speak to keep saying, I do wonder how far / high my BS would be by now.

Unfortunately, because i am on limited test strips (i have to buy them) i am wary when i use them, i try to use no more than one or two a day so sometimes i just don't know the best times to test, although i do try and vary the times of day, it does get difficult when you are on limited supply. I am due to test an about an hour to see what my reading is after my lunch which has been low carb so i'll see what that reads.

Four years ago, i used to be able to tolerate more carbs but just lately it seem like my 'honeymoon' period is coming to an end :(

Alan Shanley has written "Testing on a Budget" which may help you as you have limited strips. http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.co.uk/2007/04/teting-on-budget.html

Okey cokey, as a new member, thought I'd throw my contribution in...

Been T2 for 20 years, straight thru classic progression, diet, then Metformins, then added Avandia (and lived to tell the tale), then Byetta and Metformin, then Victoza and Metformin and now Insulin and Metformin.

Earlier this year I was regularly waking up at 15 / 16 and my highest 2 hrs pp high fibre breakfast was 21.2

Was put on insulin pretty pronto and now I have superb sugars, waking between 4.5 - 7.5 and 2hrs pp 9 -10 :D

Welcome to the forum, avantgardaclue. Glad to hear you've found the right treatment at each stage of your condition 🙂

Hope you get some help with your car hire in France question. Can't help myself, as I prefer to limit my driving to the left side of the road, although have hired and borrowed bikes in mainland Europe, Canada, Latin America etc - and usually remembered which side to ride, although very quiet roads with no other traffic don't give so many clues as a left hand drive car or other vehicles.

high bg level

In 2009 before i started taking insulin i was regulary testing with levels over 30 and i was able to drive to work and work 9.5 hour day. i used to feel pretty rough though. At the time i didn't really know what the readings meant.

Just 'HI' on my meter, in other words, over 33.0.

My highest as been >33.3 a few times and the lowest 1.5 and for both I was busy mainly at work. I am t1 thought on insulin pump
