Have you also thought about getting yourself a novopen echo? That way you can use half units and it can sometimes really make all the difference!! I pressume the same for long-acting too although I use mine for novorapid 🙂

You can't use a novopen echo for lantus, unfortunately, and there is no half-unit pen available for lantus :(
 
I would be tempted to drop by maybe 4 units and see if I wake up high, then step it up a bit.

It would save waking hypo and reduce the short term risks as long as you correct at breakfast.

Just my personal preference for approaching the hypo problem.🙂

The only time I have supper (usually seeded crackers) is if I've been active through the day/evening and wasn't able to adjust basal to compensate. And have to judge based on bedtime BG. I still get it wrong a lot of the time though. Very hit or miss, despite getting a feel for what's right.🙄
