I went for my bg test last week and by the time i'd faffed about going to and from the path lab by BG had fallen to 6.4 so this wasnt the result i had when i first woke up several hours earlier.

Is there a time limit, something to do with dawn??

Only want to know so when i see GP next week i know what i am takling about 🙂 I bet GP's hate people who have knowledge lol

many thanks

I think the key point is "fasting" ie not having eaten before the test, rather than the time. I can't imagine many patients or staff being too keen on blood samples at dawn - particularly now, 17 June 09, when sunrise is 0333 in Lerwick to 0509 in Penzance.

I have had 3 check ups now and each time I have had to insist on a first morning appointment at the drs. I tried to explain the 1st time that a fasting blood test at 10.30 was a little late. I am fed up of fighting for everything.

I have everything done at my gp surgery so no idea when the earliest appointment at hospitals would be.

As Copepod says, I don't think the timing is that important, just that you haven't eaten for 10 hours. For practical purposes (i.e. hunger!) it's best to have it before 10 am.

I agree when i have to have the tests I try to allways arange it for the First Appointment. This also works well around work commitments.

And if you think about it Its alot easier to do it first thing in the morning.

:D

I know first thing would be better, i thought that after running around wouldn't give a true reading. in my case it had dropped.

I didnt mean to go at dawn! i'm not that stupid, but had read about something to do with blood tests that mentioned the word dawn.

Thanks anyway.

I do see what you mean Julie, it's logical that your BG would decline the longer you went without food and the more you were having to mess about! I think that the measurement would be what they wanted to observe though, however late, as it would be what your body keeps the level at during a period without food. Sorry, not very good at explaining!🙂
