You should be able to get one for free off either the makers or your diabetic clinic - certainly as a type 1, as they want you to use their strips! What do you use currently?

My meter is an Ascensia contour and my lancet is microlet. Will my GP let me have a prescription for any machine then? This is the one I was given when I was diagnosed.

Diabetes clinics usually have lots of free meters and the nurses will give you one if you ask. Your GP will probably only prescribe strips, but if you google glucose meters (UK), you'll probably find 'competitions' for free meters. I don't know the Ascensia, but if you register on their website they will no doubt be eager to keep you as a customer and give you upgrades to their latest meters. They make so much money from the strips it's worth their while getting you to use their meters, so go for it!🙂
