Freestyle optium neo / Libre reader. The are essentially the same and take the same strips. Not fancy but fit nicely in the pocket in the carry case.

Is the optium neo the one that tests ketones too?

It's weird how excited I got about about getting it though but it really has helped me 🙂 hope I'm not the only one that gets excited about that kinda thing lol x

I use my sisters. :D

I couldn't get my head around setting up the one I bought so I swapped her. Our doctors never offered a meter. :(

Often type 2s don't get meters unless they're on medication that can cause hypos such as gliclazide

Ah right. I'm not on any meds I'm glad to say. That'll be it then. Doc just wants me to have weight loss surgery as it's cheaper he says than the meds! 😱 He can clear off, I'm not having it.

The main thing for me is that it can link via Bluetooth to the Contour app on my smart phone. It also lights up. So green when your sugars are in range, red when hypo and amber when hyper. I thought it wasn't very helpful until a few days ago when I was hypo in the night. My vision was a bit blurry as I was still pretty asleep and all I saw was the red light. Instantly made me alert and realised I had to do something.
The smartphone bit wouldn't be any use for me as I don't have a smartphone 🙂 The coloured lights sounds like a good idea though 🙂

I didn't actually know the Libre meter had a bolus calculator - but there again ever since the first meter I owned which cost me a month's salary (strips were free on scrip but not the meters in those days!) I've never had to pay for one in my life since then anyway.

The only difference between the Expert meter and the Combo pump meter is that the latter communicates with your pump by Bluetooth, thus making it a remote control. But they look exactly the same!
