What meters does everyone use

So when I was first diagnosed 4 weeks ago I was given a little freestyle meter to use and on set insulin units but as I'd been doing so well with my own carbohydrate counting when I went to visit my nurse 3 weeks ago he decided at my next appointment I should get a new one so when I saw him 2 weeks ago he gave me the Accu-Chek Aviva Expert and I feel this has really helped me and I love it. 🙂

The Expert's brill because it calculates your boluses for you once you've programed it with your carb ratios, correction ratios and your target ranges and also takes off any insulin already on board that hasn't already been accounted for with matching carbs also entered. 'Ordinary' meters don't do this though the AccuChek Pump ones, do.

There is another 'smart' meter that does the same job, called the Insulinx. But you won't need another make, cos the one you already have is BULLET proof!

The Libre reader/meter (from Abbott same as the Insulinx) is also a 'smart' meter - obviously that part of it only works on blood values from inserting a strip and not swiping the sensor.

I was trying to set one of these up for a client (Silver Surfers/Bluebadge/etc) and found from Acensia that they only are compat with a small number of (US friendly) Android phones! Have passed this back to client. She says she will go back to old meter!

Any "normal" person would think I was insane but I was really excited when I got it haha x

I've had the expert for about 18 months now and I love it! I've used several previously and this one has been the best by far!

It's great isn't it being recently diagnosed I was worried about correction, if i still had active and if so how much it's made me feel in more control again as it gives me the guidance I need I was literally like a kid at Christmas when I got it haha x

Oh that's the one that kinda looks like a USB stick isn't it looks way more portable than mine but would be no point in me having it as they don't do an app for it for windows phones x

Me too lol! Only thing is I am on very high doses and very occasionally it doesn't calculate a high enough dose!

The main thing for me is that it can link via Bluetooth to the Contour app on my smart phone. It also lights up. So green when your sugars are in range, red when hypo and amber when hyper. I thought it wasn't very helpful until a few days ago when I was hypo in the night. My vision was a bit blurry as I was still pretty asleep and all I saw was the red light. Instantly made me alert and realised I had to do something.

That sounds like a great meter especially for those kind of situations 🙂 I've not experienced a hypo well not since I've been diagnosed x

Freestyle optium neo / Libre reader. The are essentially the same and take the same strips. Not fancy but fit nicely in the pocket in the carry case.

It is very helpful! Especially since when having a bad hypo youre not thinking entirely straight so seeing red on the meter makes you jump into action
