What makes of meters are you using?

Both of mine are Freedom Freestyle Lites and I use up to 50 strips (1 pot) per week which, thank heavens, I now get on prescription. I find them easy to use and the strips need very little blood to work. I had a Bayer Contour at one time but just couldn't get on with it.

Freedom Freestyle Lite

Freedom Freestyle Lite

Scounged from a friend who had a spare or 2 - my Dr is not interested in me testing, has said that he does not beleive that testing is good practice, -- no stips will be prescribed for me, but the friend has said that they will send me some more, when they run out I will have to purchase what i want,

I use the Bayer Contour USB or a Bayer Contour (thanks to the lovely Gail 🙂) and go through 100 strips every 3-4 weeks

Well it's not HIS eyes/kidneys/feet/dangly bits on the line is it?! I wonder how he'd feel if drivers were told to wear blindfolds during journeys and only be given an idea of where they were heading following an official Ministry of Transport 'directional assessment' every 3 months.

Frustrates me that so many GPs ignore the improvements that can be made in T2 levels with proper BG testing regime (to save cost). Test strips are not *just* about spotting hypos.

I was given a caresens n meter from my dsn, have had no problems getting strips for it yet (testing 4 times daily), seems I'm the only one to have one if these meters but it works well enough

Freestyle Lite and Freedom Lite. GP won't script me more than one tube of 50 at a time even though I'm supposed to be testing 8 times a day. He insists he has to follow guidelines, though what they are I have no idea. 😡

That's ridiculous! You're a T1 on insulin. If you drive you should test before getting in the car and every 2 hours on long journeys on the advice of the DVLA. I use 50 strips a week and don't drive much at all - so if I did I'd be at the Dr about every 3 or 4 days asking for another script.

I've got an Accucheck compact, a Veriopro 1 touch, a One Touch Ultra and 2 Optium Xceeds which are the ones I normally use because I like the foil wrapped strips and I also have the blood ketone strips.

I have 25 Verio One Touch strips free to a good home if anyone would care to PM me their address.

I'm in the process of changing docs. This is the guy who diagnosed me T2 and despite letters from the hospital, every time I call him he says his computer has me as T2 and therefore won't give me more than one tube as he has to follow the guidelines for prescribing T2's strips. Don't know if there are diff. rules up here in Scotland. He gives me a repeat prescription for my Lantus and Novorapid!!! Crazy.

That's ridiculous for a person on insulin - you should get your consultant or DSN to write to the GP and point out all the reasons for needing to test. Whatever the 'guidelines' are, I suspect they apply to the majority Type 2 patients, and do not take account of the potential dangers to an insulin dependent patient like your self. I get 300 strips per repeat and test on average 6 times per day. Don't stand for it!

I mainly use my accuchek Aviva, but also have a Nano and Optium Xceed 🙂

Freestyle lite.
No free strips or lancets here. Also a victim of a GP who says the PCT says Type 2s need not test.

Sooner you change the better, there's no such guidelines to my knowledge that restricts the issue of test strips to type 1's - within reason of course and testing 6 to 8 times a day is typical for a type 1.

I use an Accu Chek Aviva Nano. I use about 50 strips a month and have to pay for them. Expensive job! Katiex

I use the glucomen lx plus, and test 4 times daily. I love this machine as I have a pink cover for it !!!

I was given an Accu Chek Aviva by my DN, on the basis that I tested only 2 a week, thus I can get 1 box of strips every 25 weeks I guess. Still on the ten free ones officially, but will ask for more now.

GlucomenLX for dad we supplement strips as we are afraid we wouldn't get any more. Bought x4 pots but one full price via chemist the other 3 less VAT expensive but worth it as the readings really help us.
Have an Abbott monitor with the x10 strips (used a few of them to double check an odd reading)

Will be asking for a script soon but not sure if we will be told we can't get them. We save on lancets as dad uses one lots of times at least we haven't had to buy those!

Accu Chek Fast Clix. Get through 50 strips every 7-10 days. I know it's silly but i get worried everytime i put in a prescription for strips that they will tell me off. My DSN has instructed my GP to issue 2 lots of 50 per prescription because i need to test up to 8 times a day - i hope his good will continues!! It makes me cross that type 2's seem to have a blanket rule against BG testing. When i was initially diagnosed type 2 i was told to test my blood glucose levels and keep a food diary because my Hba1C's were so erratic but that I had to fund it myself because they didn'y issue blood testing kits to type 2's! Eh?

Hi I use a freestyle mini which fellow type 2 gave me, have to buy my own strips
Doctor was horrified that I was self-testing 😱 so no prescription, did give me a exemption certificate for everything else:confused:

My lot of strips have been claimed now 🙂

It took me 8 years to get the right tests and the Endo wrote to my GP's surgery saying I am T1 and last week I went in and it still said T2 so I got a bit annoyed and said "when are you going to believe the specialist and the results of the tests which are incontrovertible?" So they quaked a bit and I saw to the alteration of my medical records!
